Yao obviously has the size advantage to shoot over his defender whenever he wants, but Scola also has amazing footwork and agility. Yao has good footwork to but not as good as Scola's. Scola with the scoop and Yao with the Shanghai Shake  Who is the better post player in your opinion? <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_ka3zqzq64U?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_ka3zqzq64U?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/r8STO24L_NY?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/r8STO24L_NY?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Yao's post moves are very predictable (2007 Utah series) as he only has two moves (turnaround J and hook shot). Luis Scola's post moves are dreamesque. He has so many fakes and so many moves I don't think we've even seen them all.
Nothing against Luis Scola I think he does has amazing footwork, and good range. But Yao has the size, power and finesse to go along with his good foot work, which gives him the clear advantage over any post player in the game right now.... The only thing holding Yao back is his health.. sigh --RB
You might want to define "better" for this matter. As if both players were the same size? Then definitelly Scola, Yao would be just too slow to play if he had Scola´s size. And he will have to develop a lot of footwork. If you mean which player can score more consistently, i would say this poll is a no go, as Yao can score in mainly 80% times he receives the ball on the post while Scola´s rate might be at 50%. Then again, there is the issue of how you get the ball in the post to that player, Scola can take his oponen for virtually any spot to the post. And he can be fed very easilly because he has a great catch for the ball and is very good finding spaces. Yao on the other hand can be denyed the ball a lot more easier thanks to the same things that makes him great, his biotype. I think this is where you need to be more specific. Both are very different players, Yao is basically designed for his position, while Scola is actually the opposite of what you´d want in your son to be a basketball player. Yet both succeed and that counts for a point both have, and that is the will to work hard and cover your weakneses to magnify your strenghts.
Sorry Yao, but Scola is my man on this one. Last shot of the game, I'd rather Scola have the ball in his hands. If Yao moves to a open spot when yao's man leaves, drop the ball to Yao for the slam or put back. These to are gonna work well together.
Yao is the better post player because of his size and strength. Scola has better footwork by far. Scola makes officials think he is traveling when he pivots.
Which player would you want as a teacher for your son if his dream was to be an NBA Post player? I am 100% sure Scola is almost anyone´s choice.
First quarter, its Yao, second quarter they are about the same, third quarter Scola wins, and fourth quarter they both out played by opponents.
Scola's post game is way overrated if people are calling it Dreamesque. He makes his money by filling in spaces and draining open midrange jumpers, running the floor, and giving maximum effort. Luis doesn't have the strength to muscle in baskets in heavy traffic, and he doesn't have the extension to comfortably drain turn-around jumpers against most post defenders. Unlike Yao, he does not draw double teams in the post.
Yao. If Luis had a left hand, it would be a lot closer. I would venture a guess that coaches and GMs around the league would giggle at this poll.
- Yao is now a better player than he was on those playoff series. Players evolve. - More offensive weapons not necessarily make the better player. - Yao has more offensive weapons in fact; he has a left hand and he uses the left side. - It is clear that we have been a whole year without Yao games, and that the other player in question is the MVP of the current FIBA World Championship and specially comes from doing an epic performance.
Call me when they start doubling, fronting and pretty much changing their whole defensive plan in order to stop Scola.
Scola is crafty and scrappy. Yao is a 7-time all-star... /thread. Just be glad they are both on our team...
