To be a good post player, you need excellent foot work, size and strength. Scola has nice foot work unfortunately his lack of size and strength in the post make him easy to defend. This is especially true in nba compare to international competition as most nba post players are stronger and bigger. Yao actually has very nice foot work, see his rookie season, but it is due to his oversized, making him slow and predictable in the post. So who is better, it is very debatable as both has shortcomings.
Very tough decision, just glad they're on the same team  Scola: the scrappy guy who just jooks and gets it done. Yao: skilled and knows the right moves at the right time. All in all, I choose Yao because he uses his length to his advantage (all though Scola uses his body to his advantage as well) All in all, both are one of the best at their position in the league.
I think Scola is bit undersized to be a premier standard post player, but he has so many moves that make you wonder "how in the hell did that go in?" Yao is a deadly post presence once he actually catches the ball. He's so strong and smooth. He just needs to be aware of the smaller players ready to poke the ball away. Together they are one hell of front court tandem. Add that to one of the leagues best 3 point shooters in AB and a guard who can shoot the lights out and attack the rim and....wow I simply cannot wait for this season to start!
Yao demands consistent double teams, Scola does not. Yao also gets to the line more and shoots a higher percentage.
Scola has more moves and mobility, quicker more crafty while... yao is bigger, taller, stronger to bang and use his soft touch around the basket to finsih. Both are VERY good in their own ways. cant say who is better im just glad the rockets signed scola back, rockets have a very good team for next season. GO ROCKETS
Let's not get carried away, I know Yao has been out for an entire season and Scola had one of the most impressive finishes in recent memory, but Yao is by far the superior post player. And ignoring his height advantage is like saying this local kid at the gym who is 5'10" is a better post player than Erica Dampier because he has good footwork and an unbelievable turnaround hook shot.
Yao has a higher fg% in the block...so you have to go with him, if your looking for actual post moves, Scola has more agility and spin moves. But overall, Yao is pretty much invincible when he gets the ball down low.
It's nice to not really know who will make the biggest impact this year. Two low post players that are about to both be All-Stars this year and a three point barrage of Battier, Martin, and Brooks. It's the equivalant of watching Dream and Clyde work together with even better perimeter players than Kenny, Elie, and Cassell. And if somehow we add Melo: oh boy! (Que the Wall Street II theatrical preview music.)
Scola, because he can catch a lot of different post passes, Yao because of his size, has too small a window. If Yao can get the ball he is the best, but Luis can get it more often. We are lucky to have both. DD
Yao is the choice, Scola is outstanding but Yao is basically unstoppable when he has someone posted. The thing that has me excited is the thought that we have two really good to great post players. If Yao gets fronted then just swing it around to Scola and let Yao clean up the glass on the weakside. If they dare double Scola then Yao should not have to worry about the fronting defensive. When was the last time we had two legit post players on the floor together, Dream and Barkley?
Cmon guys.. I love Scola but he is not your go to post player.. He scored 37 vs brazil but those were not from post moves..
Scola can catch a lot of post passes because the defense doesn't pressure him nearly as much. Why? Because he's not as effective in the post as Yao. Its not even close.
