He made 43 of those jumpers in a row per one scout. 7'2 with 7'6 wingspan, 9'6 reach, big hands. HE CAN SHOOT. He understands the game. Defensive player of the year in the CBA at age 19. The ONLY knock is that he's THIN. If he was already 240 lbs, he'd be a top 5 pick. Come on guys, if he's available at 14 or 19, we have to draft this guy.
By the time we develope him and add some meat to his bones, his rookie contract will probably be over.
But how much weight can he realistically put on with that frame? Guys gain weight/strength in the NBA all the time, but some guys just never get strong enough no matter how much they eat and lift because of genetics. Shawn Bradley is one such example. One NBA player who saw him in China liked him though-- former Rocket Metta World Peace said so on LA radio.
Doesn't look good so far. Quote: "Zhou Qi again elected to sit out today with what appears to be a very minor ankle sprain, which was a cause for some consternation among team officials and especially NBA scouts here who already have major question marks about his toughness and long-term durability." from Draft Express: http://www.draftexpress.com/article/2015-Nike-Hoop-Summit-International-Practice-Day-Four-4883
That's a good point. Shawn Bradley, for all the flack that he gets, was an elite defensive center. If Zhou can be Shawn Bradley with a shot, he'll definitely be worth it. That's true, but he'll be a restricted FA. If he does develop, More will gladly pay him. Defensive anchors with a good offensive game can be a building block.
Shawn Bradley, even in college and early in his pro career, looks like Hulk Hogan compared to Zhou Qi, though.
boy needs to bulk up. how hard can it be to eat your way to a multimillion dollar contract?!?! He needs to hit the KFC and McDonalds there. Hate the highlight vids, they never show if he has good footwork or not. I watched half the vid and still have no clue whether he can do a spin move without tripping over his feet. I do, however, know that he can make uncontested dunks, and has an unique ability to block the shots of players that appear to be a foot shorter than him
Haha, come on man. Bradley was 7'6 and 235 lbs early on, which is slightly better than 7'2 and 209. Later on he bulked up a bit though.
Its simple 1. We talk him into entering early 2. Draft him wherever we falls 3. Stash him with the Sanghai Sharks 4. Ask Yao to offer Sim Bhullar a lucrative contract with the sharks that includes free buffets for lyfe. 5. ????? 6. Profit!
Early career Bradley looks quite a bit thicker and stronger than this kid. He is 19 in the sports system in China, which probably means 22 in real years.
Mumm-Ra from Chi-na. The Rockets need to embrace their role as villains in the league. He would be a great addition.
Zhou Qi needs to ask the ancient spirits of China to transform his decayed form into Zhou Qi, the Ever-Living.
It is now the end of 2Q. The coach gave him very little time to play. But when the coach put him in the middle, he completely destroyed USA's offense. Out of all of the physical freaks in this game, he looks like "the" freak of the freaks.
He played horribly in the 2H. The kids had zero confidence and zero aggression. Ben Simmons of Australia has the marking of the next superstar.
Simmons needs to do whatever he can to be a SF and not a PF. Dude is 6'10, with a 6'11 wingspan and 8'7 reach. That's way too "small" to play PF in this league. He's basically Beasley and Derrick Williams if he decides to bulk up and play PF, which I think would be a major mistake. He needs to hone his skills for SF and only SF.
