I just heard a report on local Dallas news that Zhi Zhi Wang is missing. Nobody can find him. His trainers are saying he's in California. The Chinese are saying he should be in China with his team (or maybe the National team, I don't remember) for training. Rumors abound that this could be a first step to defecting, but nothing substantiating that. Interesting what effect this could have on the situation with Ming.
I can't see how the result for Ming would begin with anything but a delay for his avalability by a year. I'd imagine that the Chinese would attempt to keep him back until they'd had a chance to properly contimplate all of the ramifications.
I guess the title of this thread could have been worse... With the addition of two little characters it would have been: "Zhi Zhi's Wang missing..." and we might have had another John Wayne Bobbit on our hands.
Forget those defecting things, I can not believe he would do that. He is a super star in China, he has everything in China, money (much more than Dallas pays him), fame, family and everything. Who can tell me why he defects? NO WAY. I guess he just want to have a good time in California with his girl friend. To China Gov, a little upset? yes he might be for holding him so long after he requested for going to NBA. Nothing more. Take my words, we will see Wang and Yao playing together for China Team in World BBall game in Indiana this August.
Shouldn't he, as a member of the military, be subject to a stricter series of guidlines about comming and going? I know if David Robinson had decided to ignore the Navy's orders when he was starting out and gone off to play in Europe, he would have been thrown in a jail the moment he stepped back on American soil. If Wang Zhi-Zhi can decide he doesn't want to do what the Army says, what's to stop other soldiers from doing the same? In other words, I have trouble that he's just sulking and trying to get back at his bosses. It would seem that the potential price would be too high.
Exactly. The article also states that he has missed more than one deadline to return. If he was to return to China they may never let him out of the country again.
Can you imagine waking up one morning, and your Wang is nowhere to be found, only rumors of it being in CA or China!? EEEEEEEK!!
