How would you rank Cat and Steve amongst all the NBA starting backcourts? Would you say they are in the top 5? Perhaps the best in the league?

they're easily top 5, but they're too immature at this point to be the best. potentially they can become number 1 though, hopefully next year.

They are without a doubt the most valuable pair (when you consider their relative youth and skill).

I think they are probably the best in the league as well, but the true test of this will be our team success once our front court ceases to be 29th in the league in skill and effectiveness.

Runner ups are probably Sam and Allen (when healthly), Nash & Finley, Davis and Wesley--in no particular order.

A little behind them you might put Bibby and Christie, Kobe and Fisher, T-Mac and Armstrong, Iverson and Snow, and Carter and Williams--of course for the last 4 it is due to the excellence of one guy though I think Williams is underrated as an all-around player.

All of the other combos seem lop-sided. Baron Davis and Wesley.....Baron makes that group; Kobe and Fisher...come on! Iverson, and Snow....nuff said. Christie and Bibby is intriguing but Christie is a defensive specialist and Francis and Cat have way more athleticism and talent.

There really is no other backcourt that can match ours as far as potential, athleticism, talent, and backcourt commoradary. I mean Francis and Mobes work so well together, and know ea. oter's games very well. If only they could build that kind of foundation with the other 10 to 12 players on this team!!!???!!!

What are you watching??? Steve and Mobes play 'hogg ball' and get their numbers. Its not the same. They don't play defense and do not play team ball. How in the world can they be the best backcourt??? Stats aren't not everything. Did you watch them vs. Sac-town this year. They were eaten alive. Untill they learn to be unselfish, and play smarter ball-they will never win.

I'd really like to put the other backcourt duo's with no real front court players like the ones we have first before I make any decision. Take Bibby and Christie and put them with a front line up of uhm whatever we had up there this year. Or even Kobe and fisher. Take shaq out of that line up and let's see how well those two do together. I have to be honest. I think alot of people give our ambiguously gay duo a little too much credit. Lets see Francis start to Dominate. Forget the duo and bring his stats in assists and points to a new level. I want to see him start dominating games instead of trying to make his butt buddy happy. I think if he starts taking it all over then that backcourt will be the biggest punch.

Wow so now we have the best backcourt, the best player in last years draft, a solid PF in Mo-T and we're still not in the playoffs?

Get real Cat and Stevie are POTENTIALLY great players, but (listen up this is not a joke) great players find a way to take their teams to the playoffs every 3 years or so.

What we have here is a team like the Mavs had with Jason Kidd and Jimmy Jackson and J Mashburn, a team with a lot of potential but with no clue how to win a game.

So now POTENTIALLY next year we could have the best backcourt, a solid PF in Mo-T, a great young player in Griff, and potentially the best center outide of Shaq and we'll probably still be talking maturity and lottery next year unless Stevie and Cat both mature on the court (IE Play defense, pass the ball to others).

Forgive my frustrations but with all this talent and not a sniff of the playoffs is getting old.

I think they're the best SCORING backcourt in the league simply because no other two guards on the same team averaged more than the combined 43 ppg of Steve and Cat. But they are not the best backcourt in the league primarily because of their youth. For instance, Nash and Finley are a better back court now, but would they have been a better backcourt when Nash was in his third year and Finley in his fourth? No way. I think the Rockets have the most talented backcourt in the league, and have potential to become the best backcourt in the league if they can just play respectable defense and make better decisions.

4chukie and Falcon, I think you underestimate the impact of us having the worst front line in the the whole league.

Do you think Bibby was a total loser since he has been in the league and now all of a sudden he is a winner? Just 2 years ago the Rockets team lead by Francis and Mobley with a bad (but less atrocious than now) front line were average while a team with Bibby and MD (very similar pair to Bibby and Christie) and a bad front line (though not terrible either, they did have SAR after all) were about the worst team in the league. It is totally amazing what getting traded for JW did to improve Bibby game and "winning attitude" overnight  Just maybe he was a good player, and good team player, all along, it is just you couldn't tell because the front line sucked on both ends.

Personally, I think the Lakers would be just fine having Shaq throw it to Mobley and Francis instead of Fisher and Kobe (Kobe has the most inconsistent long range shot of the bunch), likewise Mobley and Francis would function just fine with a cast that included Nowitski and Co or Peja, Webber, Hedo & Vlade or Mash, Brown, Campell and Co. Do I think the Rockets would be a worse team with Bibby and Christie or Davis and Wesley instead of Francis and Mobley--without a doubt in my mind. Now, Kobe and Fisher or Nash and Finley I am less sure in the immediate term--but I sure as heck would not trade Mobley and Francis for the latter pair (probably not Kobe either--but I agree that would be temping because of Steve's health issues of recent).

I put Nash and Finley ahead of them (barely), but that's it.

Reality might be something some of you should consider. I'm all for supporting your team, but both Stevie and Mobley have some work to do.

    Most talented? Perhaps.

Best? Nope, and the reasons why have been driven into the ground.

Could they be the best? I would hope so, but a lot of maturing (and in their defense, they need better teammates) needs to happen.

    Best: No

    Most individually talented: Yes

Until they learn to play the team game and actually KNOW how to play basketball, they will be an underachieving, athletically gifted backcourt.

I take either Kobe and Fisher or Tmac and Armstrong, simply because of Kobe and Tmac.

And I'll let you guess if the Lakers would trade Kobe and Fisher for Francis and Mobley. ;)

I would probably take Kobe and Fisher for Mobley and Francis, I would pass on T-Mac and Armstrong. T-Mac has lead his team to exactly the same number of playoff series wins as Francis has, and if you switched leagues you can be sure T-Mac would still be waiting for his first playoffs.

People seem to forget the last healthy year for Francis and Mobley they lead a weak front line team to have a winning record in the brutal west. T-Mac has barely done that in a pathetic conference. Again, Kobe and Fisher would be the only backcourt in the league I'd think about building a young team around over the Rockets pair. Those of you that don't think so IMO are far too much focusing on last year when about anything that could go wrong health wise went wrong than the last couple of years-- which provide a much more reasonable period to judge them on.

They may be in time... but not even close until they learn to make the "extra pass" and quit playing defense like Kenny Smith. (Sorry Kenny, still love ya)
