    As I read this thread, post after post, I kept thinking "Surely someone will mention the Butthole Surfers." Finally Dubious had his head in the right place. :)

    The Doobie Brothers originally were called "Pud"

    Pretty much any band name that is purposefully misspelled....as opposed to the ones that are accidently misspelled.

    Butthole Surfers is an awesome name -- because it conjures images of surfing a butthole sure but much more for the more obvious reason that most surfers are buttholes. Doesn't hurt that they're a great band either. I'm not sure I've ever heard Death Cab for Cutie (I've heard of them and I've probably heard them but didn't know it was them), but that's a good name too.

    Which brings up the idea of good band names. Here are a couple great local band names from days gone by:

    Fleshmop
    Bloodfart
    Defend the Ghetto

    Beat those.

    The weird part is that the Butthole Surfer's strayed from their original name, "The Barry Manilow Mandy Rim Jobbers"

    That would've been an awesome cool name.
