Got this in my mail box, they are having a drawing for World Series tickets:

    ASTROS: WORLD SERIES TICKETS ===========================================================
    October 14, 2004
    -----------------------------------------------------------
HOUSTON ASTROS ANNOUNCE ONLINE PLANS FOR
2004 WORLD SERIES TICKET ON SALE
    -----------------------------------------------------------
The Houston Astros announced that the sale of individual
game tickets for 2004 World Series games in
Houston will begin on Monday, October 18, at 10:00 a.m. CT through an online process at astros.com.

In order to be eligible to purchase tickets on October 18
to potential World Series games held at Minute Maid Park,
fans must first register online at astros.com beginning
Thursday, October 14, at 9:00 a.m. CT through Friday,
    October 15 at 5:00 p.m. CT.

On Saturday, October 16, a random drawing will be held
among all fans who have registered online. Those selected
in the random drawing will be notified via e-mail on
Sunday, October 17. The e-mail will provide winners with
instructions on how to purchase tickets to Astros World
Series games online on Monday, October 18, between
    10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. CT.

There will be a one-game, two-ticket purchase limit for
each winner selected in the random drawing, subject to
availability. Ticket prices for the World Series, as
established by Major League Baseball, are $125-$185 per
seat and $45 for standing room only. Ticket purchases must
be made with a major credit card (American Express, VISA,
Mastercard, Discover). Additional fees may apply.

If the Astros reach the World Series, the team would
host games on Tuesday, October 26 (Game 3); Wednesday,
October 27 (Game 4); and Thursday, October 28 (Game 5,
if necessary). All dates and times are subject to
    change by Major League Baseball.

What crap. I and my entire family signed up. And none of us received an email.

Got to love the way they screw the fans that supported the team all season. I went to several games during the regular season and then went to 3 postseason games. And now i'm shut out for world series tickets unless i want to fork over a fortune to ticket brokers (exploiting @ssholes).

Thanks again for the screw job Astros and MLB.

My wife got her email today. I hope we can get past the Cardinals. Going to a World Series in Houston is what I have been waiting for since I started watching the Astros when I was 5 years old (1978).

    Two signups....two failures. :(

And as for going to tons of games...well, I went to about 15 games this year, and one postseason game. Pretty impressive for a poor broke 19 year old...if I do say so myself. :p

Me too. Guess I'll be either saving a bunch of money or spending even more at a scalper....but we gotta get there first!

I'd rather have taken my chances buying the Tix, and not making it...than making it...and having to pay a scalper. I'm sorry...a "ticket agency"

I got my email, but the server to buy the tickets is down right now!

Edit: Got my tickets to game 3...3rd baseline (Section 110), row 30...not bad at all!

Cool, I got my rejection email too. This 'only selecting certain people to be able to have a chance to get tickets' is the dumbest thing ever. What the hells the point of it? Why not just keep it like everything else and have them go on sale for everybody at the same time, and if you're fast you get tickets. Pisses me off.

Nick- I agree with the sentiment, but for something with return on investment as far as resale value like World Series tickets, you're just asking to crash a server. The server was down when the tickets were available today, and that's with limiting the numbers of people who can buy.

If it was available like that, any person with any business sense across the country would try and grab a pair of tickets for $200 a pop, and be able to sell them EASILY for 3x as much. There's $33 in non-recuperable charges (thanks Ticketmaster), but a gambling man would easily put that $33 at 50/50 odds (since the NLCS is 2-2) up against potential profits of anywhere from $600-$2000, maybe more.
