Shaq was 350 lbs, 7’1 with a 37 inch vertical. I disagree entirely that Zion is “far more athletic” than Shaq.
These freak athletes are completely hard to predict. It all depends on work ethic and how many skills he can add to his arsenal later on in the league. I think it is relatively safe to say he won't be a complete bust with the way he is playing if he underwhelms. Slim possibility it goes wrong. (worst case)
I dun like it that he's just 6'7. Would have been more sure of him if he were 6'9 with longer extremities.
I am not saying he would not be good. His ceiling is Charles Barkley. But he can also be another Bryant Reeves or a glorified Carl Landry.
Doubt it .. . just stats Hell . . . how often is the #1 overall pick the best of his class . . long term ? Rocket River
Nope. Not that he won't make a great NBA player, but he isn't going to bully his way to the greatest of all time. For example, LeBron is a freak of nature, but you take that away and he still has insane vision, passing ability, basketball IQ, etc. Shaq is the best example of someone who bullied his way to greatness and there's no way Zion can physically dominate the league the way Shaq did. Again, he has skills and is a physical freak, but he won't be better than Giannis, let alone the GOAT (whoever that may be in your opinion).
I'm not high on this kid at all...I said it in another thread, but I see him fizzling out. I don't have a "fresh take" it's simply for the reasons mentioned above. Too heavy to be a guard, too short to be a center, doesn't shoot well enough to be a wing. Sure, we have positionless basketball these days, but he doesn't do anything well enough that makes me think he'll be special (besides being a fantastic dunker). His greatest accomplishment will be winning a dunk contest
