Mike James won't start over Rafer Alston because James can not make the entry pass. He would be the first guard off the bench. Most of James's minutes will be at the 2 with Yao on the floor or at the 1 with Yao on the bench. That one weakness is why he was traded, so his use this time will minimize that weakness.
