Who was the guy they tabbed as an assistant that they wanted to promote …. he coached the Vipers ? (was that during Adelman's time here ?)
Apparently he's still stuck where he was when he left here - Associate Head Coach with the Pelicans. I wonder …. I forget what happened that triggered his leaving , maybe Morey might give him a look ? Morey wouldn't have to twist his arm too much on the 3's and layups idea.
It's a bad organization but Gentry is not a bad person to learn some coaching from. I guess Morey might. I think we're more likely to get someone who is a ball/play movement expert who will just apply everything else. What would Finch do that MDA wouldn't? Not much I think. Don't know enough about him to be able to tell though.
Wasn't it Lue? I thought it was Lue for the Lebron sweepstakes, no? Trade Harden for Lebron to pair up with CP, no?
Odd thing about Finch is that he was considered a really good defender in college and he had a defensive mindset. From what I remember reading, he likes a fast tempo offense, and he also said he likes to do what Alvin Gentry does and not call every play up the court and let the players eventually just figure things out so the offense doesn't get too predictable. This will probably piss off some of the fans on this forum, though, since that's basically what D'Antoni does. BTW, Gersson interviewed Finch up in Minnesota, but apparently decided to keep Saunders as head coach.
I seem to remember rumors of Morey wanting JVG when we hired MDA. Les however wanted MDA. Is that true or did I just make it up?
Ideal coach would be someone that buys into Moreyball but also has an actual feel for the game during the game, something MDA doesn't seem to have. Defensively strong would be great but not a must as we've seen this can be handled by a good assistant.
Yeah was always going to be hard to replace Saunders. Finished the season well, loves analytics, Flip's son. On Finch, I guess the advantage is they could get him cheap since he's not perceived as a HC candidate, but yeah I think someone off Spurs or Heat staff are more a fit. No point getting rid of MDA for someone who does and believe everything exactly the way he does.
Was reported here, not sure if it was 100% confirmed. I find it hard to believe JVG would just accept Morey's offensive requirements. Love JVG's personality and time here though.
