Simple question, who’s the backup point guard on this team? I was looking up some of our options and I came across EuroLeague MVP Scottie Wilbekin. I remember him from Florida and then he was on the Sixers summer league twice and actually got signed to a 4 year deal but was cut right before preseason if I am not mistaken. Anyhow he ended up in Europe and has improved his shot tremendously and now is one of the best scorers in Europe and has turned into the Steph Curry of Europe. Last year he averaged 19.7 points , 4.8 assists, 1.6 steals. He also was the MVP of his league and the EuroCup MVP as well. He just signed a two year 3 million dollar contract but I am sure his buyout is pretty low. Seeing how he was sought after by Sam Hinkie I am sure he is on Morey’s radar. The only question that remains is would he be willing to come here and accept a lesser role. So who else is out there?
Aside from CP3, Harden and Gordon........it appears it will be a training camp dual between MCW and Melton to claim the role of those garbage time PG minutes in blowouts.
I didn't see a defensive play in those highlights, but the rest of them look like an audition tape for the NBA. Numerous deep 3's easily outside the NBA line, some nice passes. Didn't see any finishing at the rim or, again, any defense, but I'd certainly consider taking the guy as a backup point if we could get him. Why not?
I want MCW to start the season and Melton to go to G League to play as much as possible. Then bring him up half way thru the season. It was great being 1st in the league but it doesn't matter come playoffs. Not as concerned for the 1 slot this year
I feel like people here tend to underestimate the MCW signing. Sure he’s terrible in shooting. But as a playmaker and defensive guard he has been consistently the top quartile in the position. His FT rate is also high, indicating a better and more efficient potential offense usage in penetration. This particular type of player (has well-identified flaws in certain categories) tends to flourish in a well-defined system with clinical discipline in execution in Houston.
Steph Curry might be good enough to be our backup point guard, too bad he's already playing for the WarLady's ... Go Rockets!!! ....... ....... .......
MCW is the only backup point guard on the team with experience. If we want to keep Paul fresh we need to have a backup. Shifting James to the point keeps him from resting and then forces more minutes on Gordon. Gordon is not a point guard and we have no clue what we have in Melton. I see Melton as more of a defender and I question his playmaking ability. So are we confident in MCW to be the backup? I guess if he is surrounded with Harden, Melo, Gordon, and Capela we can hide his deficiencies but what happens when we roll out the bench brigade and he’s only got Green and Gordon. That is going to be rough.
there isn't a true backup pg role on this team. one of harden or cp3 are always in the game if theyre not out due to whatever reason. anyone else is just playing off of them. this is why alot of the backup pgs in the league that get somewhat decent minutes on other teams are hesitant to sign here. There just isn't a consistent role here if you want to play on a nightly basis
I thought Melton was considered a high lottery pick at some time and some consider him a potential stud. Seems like he should be considered to be a backup sooner before later.
