yah, hakeem would be nice..... but in reality, i think he could be a carlos boozer-type. solid rebounder, good jump shot. PPat is more athletic than boozer, which is amazing.
Scola's footwork and hayes post defense, along with hayes toughness. I'm offended they said Kenyon but it's a typical response from an espner. To me, Kenyon's Edge =bonehead that has to resort to cheapshots when he is being abused by his matchup. Might as well have brad miller's "edge". Who is intimidated by those lips on his neck?
I dunno if anyone should be looking up to Kenyon. As far as someone who's in the league right now, what about Carlos Boozer? Boozer I would say had a similar game in college and worked really hard to develop his face up game and post moves while in the NBA. I could see a dedicated Patterson doing the same thing. I don't think more 'energy' or 'passion' or whatever it is Kenyon Martin is supposed to have is going to help Patterson. He just needs more practice and more time.
Why just settle for Kenyon Martin? I think PPat's got more potential. With his work ethic I could see Patterson averaging a double-double someday as a starter.
I would suggest Kevin Garnett. I don't think he needs the kind of edge that Kenyon Martin has, but the sort of intensity that Garnett has. I don't think Garnett's douchebaggery will rub off, either. I think his skillset and intellect matches up quite well with Garnett both from an offensive and defensive perspective.
Patterson needs to work on his post game so just study the PFs that were great at it. Obviously can take something from Hakeem as far as blocking from the weakside and postmoves. He can take a lot from Hayes & Scola like some1 already mentioned.
'96 Shawn Kemp...he reminds me of a more polished rookie Reignman. Just leave the drugs and all them damn kids out of the equation...remember Pat, condoms are your friends.
Martin is a good one ot sstudy. Like Patterson, KMart had (and still has) excellent quickness for a PF. In fact, I recall KMart spending a lot of time helping out on perimeter guys in his younger days with the Nets. I was reminded of Martin when Adelman said he would consider playing Patterson at the SF spot some.
Offensively right now(no retired players)...I'd say a Boozer from 06-08 in the jazz making a playoff run days...
