Butler is overrated gutter trash who won't get any offers on the open market when he hits free agency.

Eric Gordon is a budding superstar who I can't believe they just threw to the curb. Moray!!! He treats his players like plankton. This is why he never released the T-Squid.

Bunch of negative Nancies in here (yeah, I went there).

Honestly the narrative would be "Rockets are now on GS level and have a good chance at beating them." Sure they would nitpick, of course, but this would be the main theme.

Yall act like the media is more concerned with slandering the Rockets (it's in your head) than RATINGS (their one true god).

I suspect its good for the ratings to doubt and hate on the rockets

    First off, LOL.

And second, I don't understand how you can say that with a straight face. Literally, I don't know how in the hell you can say that without at least a chuckle after the fact.

But third and most important, the media hates mid-market teams like the Rockets. Would it be better for their ratings if they are able to talk about how Butler just teamed up with, arguably, the best player on the planet in LA or with one (in their eyes) meh MVP, one 6' PG that was literally on his last leg in the playoffs, and one disgruntled $28 million sixth man that refused to conform to their true MVP Russell Westbrook?

I'm pretty sure they get more hits/likes/shares if the latter comes to fruition. But hey that's just the way it is. Harden is the MVP and was still getting trashed on his lack of defense at the awards show. You would never see that happen to any other crowned MVP. Ever.

If we land Butler, it will definitely mean we no longer have Tucker. In that case, we will miss out on the 'former PHX mates Knight and Tucker' during the playoffs.

    What a shame.

    Interesting concept - Media-Driven Development.

Headline: Your New Look Rockets: Bench, We have a Problem
With the additions of Melo and Butler to an already star-studded starting cast in James Harden and Chris Paul, one would expect a true contender with the return of Clint Capela who is locked in for the next 5 years. One would think they would give our beloved Golden State Warriors an honest run for their money, even with the upgrades they've made at the Center position. While Butler gives them a wing player who's made a name for himself as a defensive stopper, it would be dishonest of us to not take a moment to see what Houston lost rather than what they have gained.

Trevor Ariza, your prototypical 3-and-D wing. Luc Mbah a Moute, the perfect wing-man to your prototypical 3-and-D wing. (PJ Tucker, your Draymond Green 2.0.) Eric Gordon, arguably the only player on their 2018 bench that kept the defenses honest. One could argue that their losses alone could form a formidable starting unit in the East.

Instead, they'll be running lineups with Michael Carter Williams, whom no one can remember the last time he made a meaningful layup, let alone a jumpshot; James Ennis, a journeyman who's unproven as a defensive wing - their supposed Ariza replacement who will be tasked to guard KD if they make it to the WCF. Marquese Chriss is more than likely to miss the rotation given his propensity to have childlike tantrums. Brandon Knight will be coming off an ACL injury and not to mention a knee surgery plus infection - don't expect to see him crack the bench rotation in a meaningful playoff run. What we're left with in the playoffs is a dilapidated bench unit that will inevitably force D'Antoni's hand of dropping Melo to the bench. We're looking at a bench unit consisting of Knight, MCW, Green (bless his heart), Chriss, and Nene who could very well retire mid-season. They've got players who can be brought in for injury insurance in their new rookie Vincent Edwards, Zhou Qi who may never be NBA-ready, Isaiah Hartenstein, Gary Clark (amazing how much Morey loves undersized PFs), and Bruno Caboclo - can we just all say it together: HE'S NOT KD! Oh, and there's Rob Gray who seriously looks like he came straight out of NBA2K's MyPlayer Builder.

That's four players whom they're counting on to fill in "meaningful" bench minutes. Two of those four will likely not crack the playoff rotation. Using that next-level math, that's five great all-world talents plus two bench players they'll have to rely on to spell playing time for the starters. That's your typical seven-man D'Antoni rotation for the playoffs. That's not going to beat the reigning champs. That might give them one win in a series with them if they make it out of the 2nd round. They'll give a good run against Lebron's Lakers this year, but won't be near to what they were last year. GSW in 5.

"As opposed to the Warriors, who have five great all-world talents plus two bench players the can rely on to spell playing time for the starters. I see a Golden State sweep."

The narrative will be just like last year and when we got Melo. No way they fit together. They questioned whether 2 ball dominant guards could fit. Then they questioned how two ball dominant guards could fit with Melo. Now they are going to question whether 3 ball dominant guards can fit with Melo.

    Lol

Half would praise us like crazy and say we are a real threat to the Warriors.

The other half would say that Warriors are still too strong since they added Cousins, and that Butler might leave, we will miss Gordon who was vital.

They have to have two sides or it isn’t an argument...which is the point of the shows.

The narrative that Butler doesn't fit into the system is already forming.

Iggy will fake an injury and say we would have beat you guys in 5 if our best player didn't go down.
