People these days usually use the word socialism with a negative connotation, as if its connected to perpetrators of genocide/totalitarian governments. However, Albert Einstien defined socialism as " direction towards a social-ethical end" aka the best for everyone/the overall just system. Discuss
I agree that socialism should not be viewed with negativity. In my opinion, the philosophy behind socialism is noble. However in practice it seems like it doesn't work well with our current state of human nature. I think the only reason people look at it negatively is because many currently run socialist government takes away basic human rights (i.e. by doing censorship etc.)
Socialism is an evil idea perpetrated by those who want others to pay for them while they do nothing. People love to do absolutley nothing. Living off of food stamps and Medicaid is their dream. Socialism involves a big government power grab and destruction of free markets. Business which as we all know abstains from the greed of power and wealth that only effects the government. Socialism involves the government telling me what to do in any situation unless it's whether or not I can get married or have an abortion. Also Limbaugh, Palin, and Beck told me so. The fact that these people combined have one BA in Journalism, several divorces, drug addictions, mental health problems, etc. does not sway my firm belief in their principles that I do not fully understand. Identical synonyms for Socialism include Communism, Nazism, Obamanomics, Obamacare, Obama, and Liberal. I know this is true and any facts you use to try to convince me otherwise will just futher cement my belief that you are an elitist and have been brainwashed by the liberal media and or college professor.
Socialism is a type of democracy in which you not only have political democracy, but you hae democracy in the work place and in economics. In present day America for example you have no democracy in corporations and as they more and dominate the government we have less democracy. Socialism was such a good word that when the Bolsheviks departed from socialist doctrine and seized power in Russia undemocratically they continued to call themselves "sociaists". This was handy for capitalists who then branded all "socialism" as Boshevicism or the mess that resulted in Russia. Meanwhile the capitalists tried to dodge the vicious inequality of their system by calling it "free enterprise".
An unattainable system that can never work because all people are not willing or able to do an equal share of the work. DD
Good point. It grows stale when people idolize and compare us to europe or canada. It might work ok there, but the US is very different. Socialism is giving the right to one group to decide what is right or the best interest for another group.
No it isn't. It's a form where people all pitch in and then divvy out the benefits from what's been pitched in. The problems occur when some don't pitch in enough or take out too many, but it is in no way one group deciding for another group any more than any other system.
Well it is beyond people just paying more taxes, though that is part of it. Some people will pay more taxes but that's different than paying too much.
Socialism is a working economic theory, a quasi-hybrid of capitalist and communist principles that is embraced on at least some level by every developed nation in the world including the United States.
China should no longer be considered a bastion of socialist ideology. Nominally it's a communist state but in reality ever since the free-market reforms of Deng Xiaoping, economically speaking it is adhering to a more capitalist line. One can say that the only thing China is trying to conform to in the spirit of Stalinist/Maoist Communism is that damned totalitarian state.
you had me going for at least a paragraph! nice... id rather have socialism than fascism (the costs are socialized and the wealth is privatized), which is what we have in this country. in america welfare is bad, unless its corporate welfare. people get so upset when we talk about helping the poor in this country, but they dont seem to mind our tax dollars going to these giant corporations like dubai-based haliburton. nobody seems to get upset when billions are wasted on illegal wars or bailing out 'too-big-to-fail' entities which got in the situation they were in due to their own malfeasance and greed. our government strips bankruptcy protection from individuals but reinforces it for big business. but try to put programs in place to help poor americans and all of a sudden its stalinist russia.
When 10% of the people make 90% of the money in a country, something is not right. My connotation of Socialism is a system that fixes the issue above.
