A definite 'seize the moment' decision -- it will be interesting to see how her campaign develops. _____ Wendy Davis tells Democrats she’s in Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis and her advisers have begun informing influential Democrats that she intends to run for governor in 2014, according to multiple sources familiar with Davis’s conversations. The Fort Worth legislator made a national name for herself in June when she mounted a filibuster against new proposed abortion clinic regulations. Texas Republicans ultimately passed those restrictions into law in a special session called by outgoing Republican Gov. Rick Perry. Davis advisers declined to confirm that she will enter the governor’s race, but Davis consultant Hector Nieto said the senator has made up her mind about 2014 and will unveil her plans next week. “Sen. Davis has decided what she will do and she looks forward to making that announcement with her grass-roots supporters on Oct. 3,” Nieto said. State and national Democrats have wooed Davis over the past few months for the uphill campaign against Republican state Attorney General Greg Abbott, the presumptive GOP gubernatorial nominee. She signaled in an email to supporters this month that she would state her intentions for 2014 at an event at the beginning of October. It would be a major shock to her closest allies if she were to reverse course before that event and opt out of the election. Davis, 50, has trailed Abbott in early polling on the gubernatorial election, which will be the first open-seat governor’s race in Texas since 1990. link
So Wendy wants the embarrassment of a major defeat on her resume? Makes about as much sense as killing babies.
This is going to be great. I can't wait to see how Republicans shoot their mouths off Clayton Williams style.
Repubs already frothing at the mouth and talking about baby killing -- will she be compared to Hitler before we hit the second page...?
Greg Abbott will force her to defend post viability abortions, which aren't popular anywhere, much less Texas.
She's very unlikely to win, but she will energize Democrats and likely increase turnout, which may help in down ballot races.
Okay; well, multi-party elections and abortions aren't going anywhere, so put on some Cristy Lane and get comfortable.
ugh, that means we have to endure the slobbering lovefest the media will heap on her. Any bets they cover her fashion sense more than her policies? Funny thing.....she filibusters against something that only a small minority want and is considered a heroine, whereas Ted Cruz filibusters against Obamacare that the majority of Americans do NOT want and is villified....go figure. She makes Greg Abbott look better every day
The funny thing is; you're completely wrong, but pointing that won't make any difference to you. I'm not a huge fan of her's. Abortion in politics is less about ideology than it is leverage. Her filibuster against cuts to public education was much more important. It's enough to make me cautiously optimistic.
Man, this is going to be fugly. Ms. Davis stood to maintain the freedom to choose a legal medical procedure but it so easy to characterize as baby murder. I want a democrat to challenge the single party rule in Texas and return some choice and democracy but they will burn her as a witch, vilify the party as an invasion of out-of staters and set any progress back a decade. The whole election will be framed by abortion, every issue will be trumped, the stupid will burn.
