We have an Alp problem.

Worst take in this thread by far. omg. JG is a laughably inefficient player. JG makes Sengun look like Wilt Chamberlain. (JG is a career negative +/- and it's not even close, Alpi is a career positive across the board except for the last 3-4 weeks).

 

Please. Say what you want about Alpi this year, but Jalen Green is …. not good this year. I’m more sad about losing Dillon Brooks.

 

I like Amen, but unfortunately this is true. I think Amen should either start at SF or move to 6th man.

 

I like Alpi a lot, but I agree. His passing vision hasn’t been what it used to be. He has been too myopic on offense and forces the issue when he should be distributor.

 

I’d say almost all the things listed here are true. Seems to be in a funk, looks checked out of the team, has no lift so is either injured or super tired, teams are still packing the paint cause KD isn’t a volume guy and rest of our shooters are inconsistent, settles for dumb shots and those perimeter post-ups way too often which doesn’t help at all.

I find it unlikely that he’s just going out there and doing his own thing btw. Udoka is too strict to let that happen. He might not be executing it well, but to the degree that this might be called a plan or a scheme, for some unfathomable reason I do think that’s what the coaching staff is telling him to do in the absence of a PG. Just like the Amen as a PG thing or randos bringing up the ball when Reed is on the court. I think you all are giving this coaching staff too much of a pass.

 

This year, Sengun is ranked 11th on the team in net rating. The only person that averages a minimum of 10 minutes and has a worse net rating is DFS.

Last year, Sengun had the 2nd best net rating on the team. The only player better was Steven Adams.

Going from 2nd to 11th is a huge drop. His defense is what has destroyed his net rating. He provides no rim protection at all this year. This is the total opposite of last season. Defensive rating went from 107.4 last year to 113 this year. That is a huge decline.

And for some reason, Ime barely wants to play Clint, even though he has the 2nd best net rating on the entire team...lol.

 

It's not just a funk...he's regressed offensively the last 2 seasons. He seems to be getting worse on that end. He was inefficient offensively last season but he got away with because he played solid defense. Now both his offense and defense suck.

 

The only Alp problem we have is there is only one Alp and he needs to rest....

 

We are using him wrong on both ends.

He should not be in the high post, he should be in the low block, on offense.

On D he either learns how to pressure on the high side of a screen, or he has to go, drop coverage sucks.

Alpi is in a bizarre funk. His +/- last year was top of the league. Especially this last month he is in a ditch. Has to be mental or some lingering injury he is playing through but my guess it's something mental. He went from +7 to +3 and last month it's quite bad with a few exceptions.

Alpi last 3 games is -15, -4, -18. Last year his month of march was stellar, top of the league level with everyone singing his praises.

I would ADD that Alpi thrived with Steven Adams on the court with him, SA being gone has hurt him. I don't think Jabari Smith is the answer along side him in the double big role. Other teams have become accustomed to Alpi going 3-1 in the paint to load up on his center drives and they often fail. Reed has become a good outlet option for him which has kept this from being a total train wreck.

IMHO in the right group of players Alpi can indeed be top notch. But I think his head is not on right in this situation for some reason.

If he is at least his imperfect self from last year. We’d be much better off.

I understand the Amen drop off because he’s moved to a more on ball position. But it’s inexplicable how much Sengun has fallen off.

Now suddenly it’s a team that will go nowhere without heavy reliance on the aging guys like KD , FVV and Adams.

Coupled with atrocious coaching malpractice. We have a triple whammy.

Worst thing is that the management will hold on to the idea that when everything is right we’d be formidable. Thing is, everything is not going to be right.

 

he should be pissed at himself for terrible turnovers, terrible defense, lack of a mid-range game, and a shocking inability to finish around the rim.

 

What center is better than him beside Jokic?

I guess his defensive “regression” can be explained(not that it was ever good to begin with but covered): Fred, Jalen, Dillon and Steve are all gone or out. (And yeah, if your center, your last line of defense needs everything perfect around him, that’s tough to do.) Now had 2 coaches call out his defense (or lack thereof).

Inefficient offensive-first(/only) post center in the year 2026 with no range and a cone defensively while the offense runs through him.

I assume he’s in the high post because no one can get him the ball and because they want to run actions through him, but the problem is he can’t shoot and he gets tunnel vision awkwardly dibbling towards the rim or he turns the ball over. It’s been a failed approach all season.
