I used to read Condorito, and I read Viva Basquet. About Memin Pingüin, somebody in the US or in another country that Memin was a racist comicbook because they show a black kid.

I see at least 5 posters here mentioning some wine magazines, with "Wine Spectator" being the most popular one. Incidentally, at a last weekend's farewell party for a friend of mine, a couple of guys gave me advices on how to "appreciate" wine. One specifically brought up a fellow named Robert Parker. According to my friend, Parker's newsletters on wine are the most sought after periodical publications by wine enthusiasts. Not a big alcoholic drinker myself, I was fascinated by the notion of Parker being the most authoritative figure in the world on the subject of wine. Basically, Parker is the wine God. To all you wine lovers on this BBS, do you agree with my friend's take on Parker and his opinions?
Yeah, I heard about that. CRYBABies. It's been around since the '60s and until now they notice? Wow. What about TVyNovelas? Man, I can't get my hands off one of those when I go to my mom's house. Bunch of HOT chicks there... especially the ones from the soaps... RUBY. Schoooo-ing!
i agree that parker's opinions are well respected in the wine community. however, being in the wine business myself, i would say that "the most authoritative figure in the world" about what wines are "good" would be the person drinking the wine. everybody's palate is unique. if you try a wine and you like it, then it's a good wine. period. it is useful, however, to read "expert's" suggestions on wine/food pairings in my opinion. the world of wine is vast and diverse. my suggestion is to experiment. enjoy.

totally agree with futants, and would add that if you're really interested in wine, find a retailer you're comfortable with, get to know the staff, solicit their opinions, and try a bunch of different stuff. i've learned more about wine from the good guys at acker merral than anywhere else, and my old man was a vintner. futants- what part of the business are you in?
importing/distribution i work for a small wine importing company in austin. we import wines from all over the world (europe, austrailia, nz, s.africa, cal/or/wa) and distribute state-wide in Texas. our main office/warehouse is in austin, but we have a warehouse in houston as well.
