He won't be, but he is. Any team who drafts him, will get a special player and a special person.

I used to volunteer at the Texas Children's Hospital and play with sick kids all the time. Does that mean I should be the #1 pick in the NFL draft?

Good for Blackmon, though. Probably the next Julio Jones.

If you were the Texans...would you consider trading up to grab this guy? I know it's all dependent on what you trade...but for the sake of dreaming...wouldn't it be great to have this guy play opposite of Andre Johnson?

Depends on what they have to give up, but yes they should consider it. Blackmon is a special talent. WR and CB to replace Kareem Jackson are the Texans biggest needs.

What's the point , Noodle arm won't get the ball to him down the field.

Blackmon will be gone. Draft a WR with the best route running skills.

Ask the Falcons how much they enjoyed trading their next 18 drafts away for Julio Jones - it's fool's gold. WRs do not have as big an impact on winning as people seem to think. They are vastly overrated. The QB and system are far more important (see Welker, Wes; Nelson, Jordy; WR, Saints'; etc.)

Good point. I'm not an NFL guru by any means...so flash and name recognition often hit me first...well before intelligence and obviousness. :)

AJ would have been worth what the Falcons gave up.

Julio Jones has got questionable hands. He dropped passes at Bama and for the Falcons. IIRC Julio dropped the game winning touchdown catch against the Texans. Elite WRs like AJ make that catch.

The past three champiosnhip rounds featured six first round WRs (among the teams' top two-leading receivers; so six of 24 starting receivers were former #1s) and none, save for Fitzgerald in '09 and Wayne in '10, was an elite, "franchise" WR at the time. (S. Holmes, Mark Clayton, Percy Harvin and Braylon Edwards were the other four.)

Five of the 12 teams featured a TE or RB among its top 2 receivers, and the Saints and Packers (the previous 2 SB winners) featured 7th round picks (Colston and Driver).

This year alone, Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, Roddy White and Julio Jones have already been eliminated. And if, let's say, the home teams go 4-0 this weekend, that'll leave one #1 in the final four (Crabtree, nowhere near elite) with NE starting an UFA and NE, BAL and SF all featuring non-WRs among its top 2 receivers. NO (who, if there's a road upset, is probably most likely) features TWO non-WRs as its leading receivers. And the Giants feature an UFA in Cruz.

You don't have to find elite WRs, and you certainly don't have to TRADE mutliple assets to acquire them. You just have to find athletic WRs who will buy into your system.

Yea that's a knock against Julio , but him and Roddy are a deadly combo.

If we were to pick up a solid number 2. AJ and especially Foster/tate would be unstoppable.

Until this year, AJ had played on one winning team in seven seasons. He essentially played in 4 full, meaningful games this year (including last week); in the other 12, the team went 8-4 (I'm not going to count the Tennessee game at all). Those wins included finishing off two playoff teams without him (Pitt and Atl) and winning 3 of 5 games with a 3rd string QB.

AJ is very, very good and he makes the team better. But, no - he would not have been worth anything beyond a single draft pick because he simply doesn't have that big an impact on Ws. None of the "franchise' WRs do.

This is another false premise, IMO: the Texans just totaled 2,400 rushing yards this year, a franchise best. And that's with AJ playing essentially the first 3.5 games (2.5 of which, Arian missed). IOW, they already ARE unstoppable.

Obviously, an upgrade makes them better - better players make teams better. But they're pretty doggone good as is. They don't need to waste valuable assets upgrading a secondary (for them) position, IMO.
