As I was looking at new vehicles, I noticed how many automakers are putting huge screens in cars. You luxury vehicles with 30+ inch screens that wrap around the front and such. Telsa really started this with their tablet used for controlling everything, but everyone has followed. It makes a vehicle look expensive ( and price them accordingly), when in reality it cuts costs and increases margins. Wiring physical buttons and switches is much more expensive. Telsa are not well made cars, but screens make them look premium. I ordered a Maverick that has an 8 inch screen in the center, along with physical buttons. Also, the dash has a screen. I like physical buttons. I feel these big screens are distracting because of having to navigate menus to change climate in some vehicles as an example. What do y’all think?
Prefer physical buttons for not looking at things that I need to adjust when I'm driving. I guess there's always voice control to counteract that.
Give me a physical button every time, I can't work my screen if I am driving, its to much...........give me an on/off button that I can actually see
It would seem to work better if you can control everything with your voice. This is coming from someone that rarely uses siri in my car though. Unless it's for a question about something google search/trivia type question.
I’ve been watching a lot of truck reviews and some of the things people are noticing and appreciating are the return to physical buttons. It was a pain in the ass to find commonly used controls like seat heaters in some of these consoles. I also read a lot of complaints when I was shopping for a new smart oven that the screens are more annoying because if you have anything on your finger (like if you just sipped from your condensation cup) it won’t work properly.
I like big screens but not at the expense of actual buttons for the things that get used frequently. I don’t need my windshield wipers on a tablet. I have a Maverick, the layout works well.
The worst is putting ac vent direction adjustments behind tablet UI. Sometime I want the the air to blow on me and sometimes not! Sometime I want it on my head vs on my hands etc. Do some cars just handle AC so well that you don't need to adjust vent direction? Is it a hot weather vs cold weather thing?
