I would agree. You don't have a Foles lying around to guide you, and so far Watson has been the only QB to actually play well under OB. That O-line would completely destroy a statue in the pocket. If Watson goes down again, then I pack it in for the season and secure the highest draft pick possible.

There are backups you’d like to have if your QB misses a week or 2. The Texans do not have one of those.

So what? They also don't have a good backup punter either. Most teams don't.

Fitzy had one of his best seasons under BOB. Said he learned more about the QB position than he did under all of the coaches he played under before. Carry on with the BOB misinformation campaign.

It could cost you a chance to make the playoffs, or in the Eagles situation a championship. a punter not so much.

99% of the time if your starting QB goes down it doesn't matter if you make the playoffs or not. I'm fine with packing it in if the QB goes down.

    Fair enough

Foles would disagree with this sentiment

    In addition to Dilfer

    So would Hoestetler

    Mark Rypien

    Going way back Earl Morral

Even Terry Bradshaw was a backup to begin a SB season

Exactly my point. 99% of the time if your starting QB goes down, it doesn't matter. The only time you can still have a chance is if your team is so amazing that it doesn't matter who is at QB. The Texans don't have a team like that so they are part of that 99%

Can we at least correct the math to 89% of the time it doesn't matter who your backup is, based off of his examples alone...?

We have too many needs to worry about the backup QB, but it is something that needs to be addressed at some point.

I'm talking about the scenario where your starting QB gets injured and has to miss 1-3 games. having a backup that can give you a couple good starts could be the difference in winning the division. Sage Rosenfels comes to mind, as does, ironically, Fitzpatrick and Hoyer.

The question should be, " will Bill O'Brien have the backup ready if Watson goes down?" Will he play to their strength? That's if they have one lol. Last season Obrien looked confused and lost when DW4 went down.

Whenever he hits the benches, he needs to lose the gloves as well. Get those hand s all rough and frictiony.

And lucky for Fitzy that he wasn't ever developed by BOB. He had already shown he was more than capable in previous seasons. He basically played like Watson. Ran the hell out of the ball, scrambled, and tossed it deep. His "good" season was actually bellow average. He ranked amongst the bottom 4 QBs out of 32 starters. He was also being protected by a top 10, if not a top 5 O-line. The same O-line that has continued to step off a cliff each consecutive season after. Oh, and he got help from Foster/Blue for about 1800 yds that year.

Just because we replaced Mr. Pick 6 with old Ivy league boy and won 9 games doesn't mean what he or bob did was any good. The team at that point was pretty heavily stacked.

Didn't realise Demarco Murray is still jobless atm. Wouldn't mind bringing him in to run in between the tackles and piss off a lot of Oklahoma fans.
