I think we have the worst capologist. My question is how does Baltimore have one of the highest paid QB, RB, WR, and DE yet manage to sign all the guys the Texans cant afford. Same could be said about Philly and Den.
Seriously? Oher sucks and we have no idea what we're getting from Williams and Queesenbery. We are missing a guard and a right tackle; so basically about half our o-line. We are missing 4 of our front 7. We also have no nickle corner and no front 7 depth, secondary depth or RB depth behind a guy coming off back surgery. I won't even mention QB. And with OD gone we'll need another TE. I think Manning is in decline and overpaid, but if you cut him you create yet another hole. Might be better to let him play out the last year of his contract and get the compensatory pick when he leaves in free agency next year. This team may be fixable, but certainly not in one year.
Yeah it could work in one year, we can get a serviceable qb in the third(goropolo sp, Logan Thomas, thaj Boyd). Clowney in the first can push Reed inside. With Clowney out there Crick becomes a solid DE.Cush, Reed, Mercy, Clowney, Watt & Crick, We'll need a nose. With McCain gone Antonio Cromartie as a Nickel would be awesome. Hell I'd cut J.Jo and pus Rogers-Cromartie back there for a lower price. If Graham goes te are a dime a dozen in the draft. The o line is a mess but O'Brien is supposed to be an ace at that right? This team can turn it around in this season and they don't have to spend stupid money
That would make sense, Crick would be the 2 gap DE in base packages, Watt would be the one gap DE in base packages. You can do a lot worse than Clowney, Watt, Reed, Cush, Crick, and Merc/Travardo, FA/Draft pick NT.
AKA sucking from 2007-2011 thereby producing no high dollar free agents. They had two high dollar FA signings from that era, Champ Bailey and Elvis Dumervil, both of whom recently got cut (Dumervil they cut by accident last year, lulz). They also sent their franchise QB packing (Cutler) before his extension came up. Pretty easy to retrace the steps to see how the Broncos got awash with cash. The regime prior to Elway didn't spend much money. Elway isn't a strategic genius about the cap (that we know yet), he showed up with a really clean slate facing him financially. To his credit, he capitalized on it. But he's going to have to earn his keep once Peyton leaves and all those young guys they hit on in the draft (or that Peyton made look good) over the last 2-3 years start having paychecks come due.
The Texans basically sucked for 10 out of 12 years and still managed to be in a salary cap crunch. But keep spinning it. Reality is that they did a terrible job managing the cap.
Ain't spinning crap. Explaining the Broncos situation is not excusing the Texans failures. The Texans did less with more in that period than the Broncos. That is pretty plainly on their shoulders. Now you've got a cap problem after retaining players from that era and nothing to show for it.
Not buying what you're selling. Denver 2007: 7-9 2008: 8-8 2009: 8-8 2010: 4-12 2011: 8-8 ---------------- 35-45 Houston 2007: 8-8 2008: 8-8 2009: 9-7 2010: 6-10 2011: 10-6 ---------------- 41-39 So you're telling me those 6 extra wins got the Texans in salary cap hell?... Get your head out of the sand, man!
They overspent to get those six wins and got comfortable after getting them. So much so they threw bags of money at Schaub, Foster, and Cush. Guys they could have had for a lower price or in Schaub's case wait until he played the full season for God sakes
crick as a solid starter? Cap money to sign two top corners? Boyd or Thomas as "serviceable" QBs? The o-line magically fixing itself because BOB is an offensive coach? ...I don't know where to begin. I respectfully couldn't disagree with you more.
Not what I said at all. In fact, I didn't say anything about the Texans. The Broncos were not a very talented team in that stretch. Their drafts didn't produce much talent. And what young talent they did have, they let walk. Elway showed up with a pretty nice looking balance sheet. He's not a capologist (that I can discern just yet). Explaining how the Broncos came to have cap space (which had little to do with the current regime) is not in any way excusing the Texans. You and justtxyank are on high alert for homers, and I get it, but you're barking up the wrong tree.
A significant amount of those teams underachieved because of Kubiak though. Texans window of opportunity didn't open up in 2011, it was supposed to be open since at least 2009 with the talent on the roster. Kubiak royally screwed up for at least 2 years in our window of opportunity so it seems like we got nothing for being in salary cap hell now.
your reply about the broncos sucking from '07-'11 was in response to my statement about the broncos having a proper salary cap management unlike the texans. in reality the texans were not that much better from '07-'11, yet we have virtually no money to spend while the broncos are loading up.
Notice how I purposefully left off your "unlike the Texans" bit? Because I wasn't speaking about the Texans problems or failures. I'm not interested in defending them. I was focusing solely on the idea that the Broncos regime had "proper salary cap management". When in reality, Elway took over a team that had little on the books and no one worth resigning from the previous era. With Elway, it's more of a right-place-right-time scenario. There are probably better examples of cap management out there than him.
Crick played well last season and with Clowney at olb offenses won't be able to account for Cush, Watt and Clowney. Would give Mercy and Crick the opportunity to make plays...when I first saw Logan Thomas play I thought he could be a serviceable qb in the league, he's big and strong with a big arm and a little bit of mobility. As for our o line, I never said it would be magically fixed I said I trust O'Brien when it comes to the line, as long as Newton is gone it will be an improvement...and Antonio Cromartie isn'ta top ccorner anymore, he could be had for cheap to take pressure off J.Jo. Rogers-Cromartie is a top corner which is why my sarcastic comment about cutting Joseph was uh sarcastic
