Roy had 3 good players. The rest were absolutely TERRIBLE, any way you slice it. ZERO depth on the bench. Doherty was a hell of a recruiter, but a terrible coach - sorry.

Roy Williams is not only conceded to be one of the elite coaches in coillege basketball, he has been seen to be the most pro-friendly for over a dcade, and this does not come close to marking the first time a pro team has asked him to be their coach. This isn't even the first time the lakers have asked him.

Unlike many of the college coaches who have failed to succeed in the NBA, Williams is not a taks master, nor does he rely on exceptional recruiting. He has rarely had any of the top players coming out of HS, but has often produced some of the top players coming into the draft who are universally praised for their suitability and readiness for NBA ball. His teams play an up tempo extremely intelligent style that translates well to the pros, as opposed to coaches who relied on complex zone defenses or being a big man factory, etc.

I hope to hell it doesn't happen with the Lakers, but if he ever decides to, I have no doubt that Williams will make an excellent NBA coach. I'd take him for either of my teams in a hearbeat.
