Sources: Rashad Evans, Phil Davis set

Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will meet in a light heavyweight bout slated for Jan. 28.

The fight, which multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com, will take place at UFC on Fox 2, the promotion's second show on the network.

It's not the first time the UFC has booked this matchup. The two were scheduled to meet in August at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, but that bout fell through when Davis suffered a knee injury.

Evans (16-1-1) will look to solidify his place as the No. 1 contender at 205 pounds. He's currently riding a three-fight win streak, including a second-round TKO win over late-replacement Tito Ortiz in August.

The former champion had been next in line to fight titleholder Jon Jones following that win, but had to postpone the opportunity due to a hand injury. Jones is scheduled to defend the belt against Lyoto Machida on Dec. 10.

For Davis (9-0), Evans represents easily the biggest test of his young career. The former collegiate wrestler is 4-0 in the UFC and coming off a unanimous decision win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in March.

The Evans-Davis fight is expected to headline the UFC on Fox 2 card, which takes place at the United Center in Chicago.

What a boring match-up. I'll watch even though I have no interest.

    I don't understand.
If no interest then why watch? Why not find something better to do?
Or you foresee nothing better to do on that evening?

I love fights and I love the UFC. Just not particularly interested in this match-up like a Machida vs Jones or Lesnar vs. Overeem etc. Doesn't mean I won't watch though. I think it's mostly due to "Mr. Wonderful". His name should be "Mr. Really F'ing Boring".

Can't wait to see who'll win, and who will fight Jon Jones.

More excited for Sonnen/Munoz which I belive is the co-main event for this card. Huge fan of their wrestling skills so would love to see these guys tangle on the ground...

I think the wrestling will be nullified and a very fast pace fight will take place. I davis has a chin i think he can beat rashad event hough rashad's striking is clearly better.

Rashad is better in striking, but I will give a slight overall advantage to Davis.

    For real?

Excellent. I know I'm in the minority but I'm a real fan of Sonnen and his whole weirdo persona.

Davis more suited to a desk job

Rashad Evans has labelled Phil Davis a "boy" ahead of their UFC on Fox 2 main event this weekend, insisting only one of them was born to fight.

Evans is attempting to create a feeling of men-against-boys ahead of his clash with Davis, who is undefeated in his MMA career. Suga Rashad knows victory will book a title shot with light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, but he is refusing to look past his next rival.

Davis' most notable wins to date have come against Alexander Gustafsson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the latter of which saw him come through some tough moments in order to triumph.

By contrast, Evans has already owned the 205lb strap once, holding wins over the likes of Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Rampage Jackson and Forrest Griffin. When Davis spoke of what lies in store for him once he beats Evans, Rashad reacted angrily at the mere suggestion that he will be beaten.

"Rashad is the true No. 1 contender, and after I beat him they won't have anything else for me other than to fight for the title," Davis said. "That works perfectly into my plans. I take a little rest, Hendo (Dan Henderson) fights for the title. Whatever happens after that, cool - I'm up next."

Evans' response was immediate: "You ain't beating me, dog. It can't get here fast enough because I'm smashing you.

"He ain't ready. He knows he ain't ready. You're just a boy. We're going to see what happens when those lights hit you and you walk out and the crowd is roaring. We're going to see what kind of man you are and what kind of fighter you are.

"When you got hit in the mouth by [Nogueira], you didn't know what to do. When I hit you in the mouth, you're going to feel it. There's some people that would fight if they weren't getting paid to fight. I'm one of those guys, Phil is not."

Really looking forward to Bisping/Sonnen, I feel like it could go either way but I think Sonnen is just too good. Picking Evans and Weidman in the other two fights.
