I'm still sure that a Lawson/Jones/McDaniels package can net us a sweet deal but we desperately need to unload Brewer so I'd rather use Jones to sweeten a Brewer deal if anything. I think we're going to stick with Lawson. He'll get it together enough to make it worth keeping him. It's impossible for me to think he won't be giving us more than Jason Terry after another few games and practices with the team. Moreover Lawson's brand of offense doesn't work with the demotivated demeanour we witnessed from the team in the beginning. When the team improved a bit, so did Ty. Over these last few games, the team is running even more and that will feed into Ty's game. His 3pt stroke will come back and he will be in better shape, no doubt. It's a contract year for him, he's certainly going to create a market for himself and if he shows he can play a bit off the ball that will increase his value and open up his options in free agency.
Seriously doubt Lawson is bought out and released. Because after the season he can still be traded up until June 30th, without his 16/17 salary becoming guaranteed. So I can't see buying him out....unless.....he's willing to walk away from enough money to slide us under the luxury tax.
I'm wondering if these guys are playing for real now and if when Ty comes back it'll be like joining an entirely different team. Im expecting a breakout game from him before the end of the week.
Are we still hoping to have an expiring contract for Durant? Why? We don't even know the man is coming here. Guys like Teague and even Schroeder could honestly put us over the top. A 38 yr old sg/pg has taken minutes from Lawson at this point. If Schroeder has regressed in Atlanta maybe he needs a fresh start here in Houston. We're in a win now and I hope Les has the whatever it takes approach.
maybe you don't understand that both Teague and Shroeder IF they became available (they aren't really) would have much higher value than Lawson or Lawson+Jones or Lawson+ Kj+ jONES+ Harrell.
We'll, we're at 14 players right now. IF we waive Ty, we'll be at 13 players and really will need to add at least one player if we want to maximize our winning odds. We currently need to drop $2,528,577 to get out of the luxury tax. Add in another $500,000 minimum to sign one minimum salary player and you're looking at asking Lawson to give up right around $3 million to get us below the tax. Lawson has already given up $14 million.
but if the other option is for him to be in the doghouse , never getting a significant role or minutes and so destroying his next year value, maybe he does it. He doesn't seem to be the one who lacks any confidence in his abillity. (judging by the fact that he was so bright to forgo his last year when he had two DUIs, was ordered to go to rehab, and he was traded for scraps). At least Rondo got a medium contract. If Lawson continues to play like that all year long, then maybe he gets 3-4 per for one year and the other ung.
Someone will give Lawson 3-5 million next season anyways. He won't need to get bought out to prove he can still play.
Ty Lawson man this **** bugs the hell out of me the guy is a stud but he sucks all the sudden and it pisses me off and confuses my brain
We should quit pretending we can assimilate Ty Lawson into the team. We do need a 1/2 type player, given Pat Beverly's injury history. But Lawson isn't suddenly gonna see the light or catch on.
The bolded are things I kept telling myself a few games into the season. We are now nearly 30 games in. That's already a third of the season played. Lawson has shown absolutely NONE of this. The sample size is big enough to prove he is an absolute bust for this team. He doesn't even look like he wants to be out on the court 99% of the time. I honestly can't believe I thought this guy was going to propel us into championship contention.
Lawson's market is "minimal". Can't say I'm surprised. But that shouldn't stop Morey from attempting. Whatever happened to that Cyberx rumor of Jack/Bogdanovic for Lawson rumor? Brooklyn is 8-20. They wouldn't lose much by dealing Jack for an expiring. They'd have a ton of cap space at the end of the season which could make up for the pick they lose to Boston.
Harden needs to come down with "turf beard" for 5-10 games so Lawson can hog the ball and rebuild his worth so they can salvage what they can. I have trouble seeing Morey ever being in "sell low" mode. His ears would start smoking like a robot in a bad 60's TV show if Les ordered him to do it.
