Why not? The Coen bros are just a bit quirky.

Here's what Joel had to say about the movie: "We weren't interested in that kind of fidelity. The basic events are the same as in the real case, but the characterizations are fully imagined. If an audience believes that something's based on a real event, it gives you permission to do things they might otherwise not accept."

    Here's the case he's talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Helle_Crafts

The movie intro was more accurate, although also a dark joke and a spin on those notices in films. The Coen bros. did steal some from a major story to construct the film plot: the 86 Helle Craft murder, which ended in a husband putting his wife in a chipper shredder. The TV series is loosely based off of the film so I guess that's sufficiently connected.

What an incredible episode tonight. I can't believe more people aren't talking about this show.

Almost surely watching this show once Orphan Black and Game of Thrones are finished.

Insane but great episode last night, thought it was the season finale for some reason but only about half way through the season.

    It's just ok, imo.

Honestly, I think that Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones have ruined television. The bar has been raised too high.

Poor Glen. Worst "suicide by cop" ever.

And now I hate Colin Hanks again.

That was an awesome episode. Really felt like a season finale and not a mid season ep which are normally slow fillers in a lot of shows.

Totally agree, it was really impressive. I like the pace they are moving the story along.

Nah, he's not that good a shot. Gotta put a damper on his plans to get in her pants though.

Yea but did Malvo already shoot her first in that first exchange of gun fire. I don't think she was well before the last shot was fired. For all we know, the last shot missed and she collapsed from being hit earlier.

do we know she was talking to Malvo rather than the deaf guy?

that's my thinking. he warned before shooting and there was no reply from her, so she had to be out prior to that.

The gun in the backpack caught me off guard. is the kid supposed to go amityville horror and shoot the entire family?

Exactly what I thought. She shot the deaf guy (it's gotta be hard to yell "drop it" to a deaf guy in a snowstorm) and then Hanks spazzed out and shot her.

Best show of the year (at least of the few I've seen).

The episode was unreal. The white-out scene was edge-of-your-seat crazy.

I can't wait for next one.
