    LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -
Lubbock police confirm that a Texas Tech police officer has been shot and killed at Texas Tech Police Headquarters.

It happened around 7:45 p.m. on Monday night at the Texas Tech Police building at 413 Flint Avenue. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old freshman Hollis A. Daniels, was taken into custody at 9:28 p.m. according to officials with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. He was located near Jones AT&T Stadium.

Officials with Texas Tech University say since Daniels was taken into custody, the lockdowns at Texas Tech University and University Medical Center have been lifted. Officials say people still need to avoid the Texas Tech Police Department and the north side of campus.

Texas Tech officials tell us they did a welfare check on a student, found drugs and drug paraphernalia in his room and brought him in, once at the PD building, the student pulled a gun and shot the officer in the head, killing him. Then the student fled on foot.

Officials with Texas Tech Police, Lubbock Police Department, Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, Federal agents, and the Texas Department of Public Safety were all called to assist.

After Daniels' arrest, officials were searching through vehicles on the west side of the stadium. Sources say a gun was recovered, but it is not clear if it belonged to the officer or Daniels.

I don't understand how he pulled a gun after he was arrested. They didn't search the guy? Sounds strange.

He was just a harmless college freshman student drug dealer. Surely not a thug.

He had deceptive athleticism. Probably a victim of the opioid crisis. Needs therapy, counseling, and drug treatment.
