A bold move for a man who dodged the draft and described avoiding STDs in the 1970s as his "personal Vietnam." His opinion on the military is as valid as his opinion on the Boy Scouts, another organization he was never a part of.

I don't know enough about military cohesion to have a firm opinion, but I can't imagine that running off 15,000 active service members is good for morale.

Also, a proud never-Trump GOP member weighs in:

This was done also on the anniversary of the militaries anniversary of desegregation.

Is this why people vote for Repubs lol? Making the world a better place one step at a time.

The cost of viagra to the military apparently dwarfs any expense of these 15,000 soldiers, but never expect logic from Two Scoops or his apologists.

There was a time when "Negros" were not allowed to serve because.... <insert your bigoted, ignorant, presumptuous justification>. How did that 'social experiment' turn out?

Can we just take a step back for a minute and realize how in the grand scheme of things, how completely desperate politically this move is?

He knows he's on thin ice with the Nationalist/Racists with the Sessions drama that is purely motivated by a method to squash the Russian investigation, and obstruct justice.

So this move is to POLITICALLY appeal to the other on the far right, fundamentalist evangelicals to keep POLITICAL support. Basically a POLITICALLY motivated move in self preservation.

    .............

Six months in folks... Six months and we already have a president who is this desperate that he has to go to the fringe right to find some semblance of support.

SGK, you don't sound like a liar. The issue is, that once again...Trump lied. Do you lie or support liars, friend?

So politico reported on the whole backstory of this decision.

Basically, the GOP leadership was in a fight with parts of the House caucus over whether to ban the DoD from paying for gender reassignment surgery. The House GOP didn't want to ban it and as a result some of the GOP were threatening to blow up the entire appropriations process over this.

So members of the GOP went to Secretary Mattis to put an end to this by having the military issue a directive to stop funding the surgery which he refused to do so they went to Trump who not only did that but took it a step further and just banned transgendered soldiers entirely because he clearly doesn't give a damn about transgendered people or the opinions of the military leadership. No one in the miltiary wanted this. This was all Trump and part of the GOP.

Well then, looks like you won't be serving in the military anytime soon... or... well, ever.

    Great decision mr. president.

Transgenders are more prone to severe mental illness, suicide and alcohol abuse. Like Astrodome said earlier, the military is not a social experiment

If you are fit to serve and have the mental fortitude to do the job I don't see the problem.

Well, you're more prone to the first thing you mentioned (and you did allude to blowing your brains out in another thread), but you don't see Clutch banning you from this board, do you?

yes because posting on message board equates to joining the military and fighting in an active war zone

TG individuals should exclusively be focused on military preparedness. But they are too mentally fragile to deal with 'societal pressure/insults'...
