This is possibly the least American decision a president has ever made. I can't think of something that goes against the ideals this country was founded on, or to take it to an even further level, the basic tenents of Christianity, than to turn away those suffering the most. And all in the name of political fodder.

My sisters friend is trying to help those detained in at JFK and so far they're not even allowed to speak to an attorney and cannot be accessed by those trying to help.

This is Trump's America and it is downright disgusting.

Way to vote against yours and your family in the U.S. self interest. Hope none of them ever plan on visiting outside the U.S. in the next four years. They may not get a chance to come back. You got legal immigrants with green cards and proper visas unable to enter the U.S. because of this short sighted ruling just for visiting family or going on vacation out of country.

King Trump's Muslim ban excludes countries linked to his sprawling business empire

Friday’s executive order suspends the issuing of U.S. visas or travel permits to people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

According to statistics tallied by the conservative-leaning Cato Institute, not a single American was killed on U.S. soil by citizens from any of those countries between 1975 and 2015. Conspicuously, Trump doesn't hold any business interests in any of the countries on the list,

Some Muslim countries were spared from the order's blacklist, even though they have deep-seated ties to terrorism. Trump holds major stakes in several of those excluded from it, records show.

However, the same set of statistics show that nearly 3,000 Americans were killed by citizens from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Turkey in the same time period — with the bulk of those killed being victims of the 9/11 attacks. Yet, people from those four countries are still welcome to apply for U.S. visas and travel permits.

Not surprisingly, Trump has deep business ties w these Muslim countries.

    • 8 Trump registered businesses have hotel interest in Saudi Arabia
    • Trump currently licenses his name to two luxury towers in the Turkish capital Istanbul.
    • Trump's latest Federal Election Commission filing lists two development ventures in Egypt
    • The Trump Organization has a licensing and management deal in Dubai for two golf courses
In addition to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, KingTrump holds extensive business interests in the Muslim majority nations of Indonesia and Azerbaijan. Both have documented ties to Islamic terrorism — yet neither is included on the executive order's blacklist.

Is it that difficult for you to have some compassion for other human beings? Your family came here from Iran. What do they think about your views?

We've banned immigration from countries many times for national security reasons.

We have? Seems most have been related to national origins. A few early ones targeted poor health, low education, and even "lunatics", but which ones were specifically put in place due to national security? Even Carter's temporary ban was specifically set in reaction to Iran's taking US hostages and was ended when the hostages were released. And Trump's isn't even targeting an adversarial country.

If they have green cards why do they have visas? Sounds like we need shut it all down until we figure out what is going on.

Did we ban new immigration while interning Japanese Americans? That question could be broadened... have we banned immigration from countries we have been at war with (German, North Vietnam, North Korea, Italy, etc). Seems like we would, but not sure if we introduced laws to do that in the past.

My point was more of the "things we do for national security".

It doesn't make sense to base the list on a past attack, it should be based on where a future attack is likely to come from. There are ostensibly updated risk reports from your intelligence that show which countries should be monitored.

Don't fall for the hollow narrative that if it's based on past terrorist attacks then it is ok. This is nazi like behavior exclusive of that consideration.

What's truly sick about this list is just how many of those countries have been militarily assaulted by the united states of america, and now the subjects of former and current dictators in a country where they had no say in how to run the country are told they need to stay home and die slowly.

Don't forget us kicking out the Chinese in the early 1900's.

...And in spite of all this America is still far more diverse and accepting than Germany will ever be.
