I've seen variants on this "does Trump actually want to win" headline a lot, and my response, which I've posted here a lot, is the same Yes, he wants to win, but he's a mentally deteriorating, malignant narcissist fool as is obvious to anyone and has been for years, most of all to people like Maggie Haberman who are around the WH every day ( along with the Failing NYTs obsession with normalizing his deranged behavior by both sidesing it,). He's just not good at winning, so...he's not. Credulously quoting Jared or whoever Maggie is anon sourcing here might buy her some more access but it does the country a disservice. The emperor has no clothes. The NYT needs to just admit it and stop softening it. He can barely function in the world, let alone president. Admitting that Trump had basically been the beneficiary of circumstance and reaped untold rewards his entire life due to blind stupid cruel luck seems to be too much for people and demonstrates a chaotic random unjust universe, so we have to pretend he is or was a genius with a hidden superpower in x dimensional political chess. Here's an idea, he's the same unfiltered jackass that he appears to be every second of every day of his public life. He won a number of lotteries in a row. In an Everettian quantum universe that's just going to happen sometimes. But hes the same jackass and hes ****ing up not because he wants to but bc he's not good at things.
