So true. Look at what guidance is given by mental health professionals about rehabilitating those who have been in a cult. The way you truly bring them back to the real world isn't by brute force. You'll just send them back into the oblivion given the natural defensive nature of people.

Now people like Lindsay Graham and Ted Cruz.... they deserve to be shamed, mocked, and humiliated. They are the deceivers. People like my mom, and other friends & family are mostly victims of slimy politicians like Cruz, snake oil salesmen like Alex Jones, & false prophets like Pat Robertson. Yes people like my mom even still were partially aware of their political ambitions for their team to win, and purposefully blocked out the dark side of what their team was doing, but they were still MOSTLY the victim of their ignorance & taken advantage of.

We are still going to have to live with ALOT of these people the next 20 years + of our lives. We are going to be dealing with the aftermath of the big lie, and the fascist movement that nearly destroyed the country for generations.... and that's if it doesn't get any worse which is very might well.

If the election were held today, Trump would get more than 33% of the vote. A big part of that is the two party system we have and another part is that there is a portion of the USA that takes the position of "just blow it all up". They are groups of people that feel marginalized by "PC culture" and believe that their interests are not being addressed by the policy makers, there are also the extreme racists, and those that crave an authoritarian ruler.

I think a lot of it is that no matter what has happened in the world, America has largely been insulated due to wealth and geography. Very few American's have any idea of what it really is like to like under war or a dictator or even instability. This is in some cases reality television to them. I also believe that the expectations of Americans (on some things) are completely unrealistic and unsustainable.

Confirms what we already knew about Trump loyalists. He probably could get away with a lot more. I mean look Mike Pence and the majority of Republicans that do not seem alarmed at what Trump incited. Make no mistake, if this was done by a Democratic president, the democrats would still be in favor of ousting the individual and the Republicans would not be crying about a message of unity.

Republicans want to have and keep power and it appears they are mostly complacent as long as they aren't physically hurt.

A big part of this is DEM are bad, evil. Wow, that storming of the capital isn't a good look. But it's not any worse than what Dem has been doing for years (plus, most of them are peaceful) and they just stole an election. 52% of Rep blame Joe Biden for it (YouGov). Yea, you cannot fix this - not in the short term.

Your premise that he has seen the light is wrong - people like him have always seen the light they just prefer the darkness.

They might sound contrite when situation seems to be turning against them, but they will soon be back to publicly showing their true colors soon enough. They only hide their spots but never truly change.

I kind of believe it. There is probably a significant minority of people who may want to just let him finish the last few days and moving on from there. People tend to favor inertia-- so while what happened at the Capitol was shocking, there are some who probably look at the fact that it didn't actually change election results and thought we would just let law enforcement handle it.

Still amazes me that 29% still view him favorably...

    Important point:

Trumps disapproval crash here is from the far right.... not the type of voters who will be persuaded by a Democrat, or an independent. These are the people who feel like he betrayed them by not having a path to destroy the government and overturn the election. They are upset because he didn't do enough in their eyes. They literally believe that Democrats are are pedophile child sex traffickers.

So don't look at this approval rating and think that's a good thing for America. If the polls showed almost 100% disapproval from independents, and a sharp drop among evangelical, or super conservative catholic Christians, then we can talk.

Fake president. Didn’t win popular vote, never had majority approval.

Hard to break 50% when you didn’t even win the popular vote.
