I don't have a link, but I was just watching ESPN News (Mike and Mike show) and there's trade speculation that Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson would love to go to the Yankees. Clemens and Johnson would both like to go to contending teams and the Yankees are their first preference. Do you think that the eight or so Yankees that will be here for the all-star game will throw their sales pitch....no pun intended?

sounds like a load of crap to me.

isn't johnson already on the record saying he has no interest going to NY??

didn't clemens already get his ass out of there to come home??

    mike & mike. great.

I can't see Roger going back to NY, but I could see him going to a contender. He didn't come back to be on a team that underacheives in every way possible.

This load of crap came from the NY Post. That should be enough to discredit the whole report.

Johnson has stated many times that he wants to stay in Arizona and other than their play of late, there is not one good reason why Roger would want to bail on the 'Stros after just a few months.

As a Yankee fan I never wanted Roger to leave and would love the idea of The Big Unit in pinstripes, but this is nonsense.

For the record, they didn't say that Clemens would love to go to the Yankees, but there is speculation that both are willing to waive their no-trade clause. It's a hard pill to swallow, but the season, as we've come to know, is over; we may as well trade anything valuable we have and bring in some top notch prospects.

    Clemens
    Kent
Beltran (I would love to resign him, but it's unlikely)

How about Houston Astros to Northern Virginia for $400 million?

Everyone obviously has the right to vent, but you seem to know how the season's going to turn out, so if you know it's going to turn out badly, what's the point of even watching?

I watch cause it's baseball and it's the Houston team. And I also hate St. Louis and Chicago. I'll tone down the off the wall comments (ex. move to Virginia :D ). I don't know what is going to happen, but I can tell you what is probably going to happen. I hope the Astros prove me wrong. I want them to prove me wrong. This team has a lot of potential but I don't see it materializing. If you want to believe that's cool. I don't. I guess that is why they play the games.

meh..... 10.5 games out of the division

and 4 or so out from the wildcard

those numbers aren't good to be talking about this late in the season.

it's not hopeless, but simply another case of the houston astros disappointing for another year.

I don't remember last year. Was everyone saying last year that the team should be blown up and the season given up at this point of the season?

    Through 87 games:

    2004 - 44-43 - .506 winning percentage
    2003 - 44-43 - .506 winning percentage
    2002 - 42-45 - .483 winning percentage
    2001 - 48-39 - .552 winning percentage

    Rest of the season:

    2004 - ????
    2003 - 43-32 - .573 winning percentage
    2002 - 42-33 - .560 winning percentage
    2001 - 45-30 - .600 winning percentage

Of course, last season at least, the Cubs were a slightly better second-half team since, I believe, they were also 44-43 through 87 games last season and ended up a game better than the Astros come the end of the season.
