have you not heard of "Loose Lips Sink Ships"? This guy disclosed to the media (and our adversaries) that one of our aircraft carriers was vulnerable, he likely compromised his ship's position by communicating over an unsecure line. And he violated the chain of command. All with a fleet commander on board his ship. Unbelievable recklessness. You cannot violate OpSec, period. He's lucky if he isn't court martialed.
Guess if you are in the military, you just have to suck it up and accept your fate, I can understand if there is a war, not sure if that is the best option currently, all they are doing is creating Diamond Princesses again.
Disease on ships is a problem as old as time. There are protocols in place to deal with it. Violating OpSec is never acceptable.
You mean being reckless with intel like this? The Captain's own crew is already dying from a virus outbreak while receiving no assistance. The risk of an enemy taking soldier lives on the ship was already happening with the virus itself.
I missed the part where we were in a hot war where our ships were under attack in enemy waters. There’s a much much higher likelihood of his crew all dying from Covid then getting attacked by Iran of whomever and dying. You also don’t know if the captain already had sounded the alarm over official channels and was shut down. You don’t know what you are talking about. The guy likely saved hundreds of lives of our military and you wang him court Marshaled. What a POS you are sir. Look at how his crew feels about him. Yeah... that tells you everything you need to know.
“I think sort of most disappointing to me is that I had set up a direct line to him that if he felt that anything, way before his letter was written, that if he felt anything wasn’t going well and he needed help, that he could reach out to me directly. And he did not do that.” -Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly 04/03/2020.
Might be lying to cover his ass. Also making a public statement is a court martial-able offense, right?
Not his call to make, and certainly not a license to violate OpSec. Announcing on unsecure coms that a warship is unprepared is as bad as it gets. Pretty clear he did not sound the alarm through his chain-of-command. His fleet commander was on board and he went around him. It shows a break down in discipline that further justifies his removal.
I find it exceptionally hard to believe that Captain Brett Crozie's next step up in the command chain did not know that there was a problem, since 100+ CV+ sailors directly impacts combat readiness.
I wonder if the cheering sailors in the video will be punished for violating “OpSec” or whatever term some people decide to use to make themselves sound like they are familiar with military words.
Navy bent over backwards to give Crozier communications channels to multiple levels in his chain of command (not to mention his fleet commander on board the ship), and he did not use them.
The fleet commander aboard the same ship did not know there was a pandemic outbreak on the very ship he was aboard?
I think there is definitely an argument that Captain Crozier violated the chain of command and operational secrecy in this situation but this is a very unusual situation. The ship is also not in theater of combat but is docked at port. At a port that can't handle the crisis. You have a CO who sees the lives of those under his command at stake with few options to address it make a very tough call. I don't know Navy regulations but it wouldn't surprise me if he did violate at least a few of those but as often been noted the military doesn't want robots especially in the officer corps and good commanding officers need to consider the welfare of those under them. Considering recently the President intervened and pardoned another member of the Navy whom members of his own unit described as "toxic" and "evil". This certainly seems like a situation to give some latitude to an officer who has the loyalty and respect of those who serve under him.
Lets see... one guy killed people and his own fellow soldiers reported on him and hated him. The other guy spoke out to protect the troops that reported to him. But in the process, embarrassed trump and his defenders. Yea, no chance he gets treated the same way as the other guy...
POTUS reveal secrets with alarming regularity. Never seen a tweet post from you on it. Also, the real hero are war criminals. Don't forget that.
