The Rockets clearly need big man depth, but who and how??

Nene's injury exposed the Rockets' lack of big man depth and clearly illustrated that what we have on the roster currently isn't the answer. And the big Brazilian is a free agent himself this offseason, so as much as us fans would like to bring him back, nothing is guaranteed.

What are the Rockets' options going forward? As it currently stands, Houston is just $1.6 million under the salary cap for 2017-18. But according to spotrac.com, renouncing the rights to Nene, Tyler Ennis (?) Bobby Brown and Troy Williams would open up $10.8 million.( @BimaThug are these #s correct? )

A quick look at who is coming out of contract shows Morey's certainly going to have his work cut out for him to make an upgrade, as I'm not sure it will come simply from signing someone.

    Free agent PFs
    :

Serge Ibaka, Amir Johnson, Zach Randolph, Tiago Splitter, Taj Gibson, Patrick Patterson, Nikola Mirotic (RFA), Jonas Jerebko, Kris Humphries, Udonis Haslem, James Johnson, Nick Collison, Dante Cunningham, Nene, Adreian Payne, Joffrey Lauvergne (RFA), David West, Brandon Bass, Thomas Robinson, Christian Wood, Mike Muscala, Cristiano Felicio (RFA), JaMychal Green (RFA), Donatas Motiejunas, Alan Williams (RFA), Derrick Williams

From this group, only Ibaka is a clear upgrade on what the Rockets have already, but he's going to be looking for a much, much bigger contract than a paltry $10 million.

Maybe Taj Gibson or Patrick Patterson would make an impact, but we all know Patsquatch isn't the guy to turn to when you absolutely need some rebounds or some stops. And again, both of those guys will probably get offered more than $10m. Otherwise, the power forward free agent pool seems pretty shallow.

However, taking a look at the list of free agent centers is downright horrifying.

    Free agent Cs:

Roy Hibbert, Alex Len (RFA), Nerlens Noel (RFA), Zaza Pachulia, Kelly Olynik (RFA), Mason Plumlee (RFA), JaVale McGee, Jeff Withey, Joel Anthony, Walter Tavares (RFA).

Would Morey take a gamble that JaVale would be able to recreate his surprisingly 16-17 effective season in Houston, without the framework of one of the best teams of all time around him?

Could Mason Plumlee be a useful part of the rotation? Certainly not as a starter, we've seen that not work in Portland or Denver, but would he be handy off the bench? He's restricted though, so I doubt the Nuggets would decline to match our paltry $10 million offer after giving up Nurkic for him.

It really looks like Morey's hands are tied. He doesn't have the cap space to sign Ibaka, so any upgrade of our bigs would have to come via trade, and would likely come at the cost of some of our backcourt depth.

What do you think Clutchfans? What can Morey do to upgrade our frontcourt depth for 2017-18?

Our best shot is internal development. Clint improving, Harrell improvement, Onuaku improvement.

Maybe Anderson can get some experimental treatment where find a way to grow him some balls.

I'm also high on Dekker, but think he is better suited to play the 3 and replace Ariza

Trade harden for Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon. Those three should be able to lead a team to a championship, right?

We don't even need a proven starter we just need the role filled. If Larry Sanders is still for real about a comeback his skill set is our need. He has all summer to play himself into shape. I know the Cavs cut him but he is or someone like him is our need. Playing with Harden will help most big look better. Rebound, defense, finish off a high pick and roll, & block shots.

They could start by not drafting 6' 8'' tweeners every year, and expecting them to be solid rebounders/defenders

Call Sactown and see if they will take Ryan Anderson off our hands, and then try to lure either Millsap, Griffin or Ibaka.

assuming they can trade ryan "13/5 po average" anderson, they shouldnt go after a starting defensive big since those cost a ton. we already got capela who was a double dobule vs thes purs. just get someone who can rebound and hustles on d. have to re-sign enne to btw assuming he wants to come back to thsi sht show

Is Ryan Anderson and his contract tradeable? Would love Ibaka but that seems like a pipe dream.

All this doesn't matter before we can complete step 1. Trade Ryan Anderson without taking much salary back.
Big mistake to take this for granted.

And Sac taking Anderson? LOL with what kind of compensation? Their frontline is full of players that can't get enough playtime as it is.
