In addition to the vote buying and general electoral lubrication that it brings, there's always extra crap in bills because so very little legislation gets passed at all that it becomes imperative.

Is this bill going to criminalize the internet?

I would rather have actual data privacy protection than picking on this one company.

this law is a massive Orwellian government takeover of the internet masquerading as a Tik Tok ban

I agree, but since that is unlikely to happen I would rather ban or force sell TikTok than see this bill in its current form passed.

They really need to make a law that laws need to be singular and on topic
Stuff pig subsidies in with electric infrastructure allocation makes no sense.

Using Obfuscating language should be illegal.

They eliminated earmarks and it was a disaster.

Congress is where ideas go to die.

I wish this section had more threads like this with actual policy and knowledge instead of the garbage woke bullshit and conspiracies. This bill is crazy and I had no idea about it. Def need to do some reading into it but it seems alarming.

It's not tinman. It's all this woke election conspiracies and trans material. I wish there was real policy debate about income inequality, AI, economics, foreign affairs, etc. Actual substance that matter. Instead it's just woke trans garbage non stop.

I was thinking about it earlier, but I can't think of any high profile abuses of the Patriot act specifically. Warrantless wire taps were not from the Patriot act.

There’s no mature, salient debate with common GOP plebes. They hate what their propaganda spigots dole out that week. You may be able to find a subreddit with some actual thinking conservatives. But I doubt it.

Reddit is just as bad....I just don't get where are the serious Republicans nowadays? Is there anyone that wants to talk about mining, ai, how were going handle the electricity needed for all the climate projects.

We're going through the biggest industrial revolution in over 100 years and the other party is stuck on trans hunter conspiracies. It's sad that one party is not interested in solving the biggest issues.

....the FISA court was one of the worst unconstitutional things we deal with. Did you forget? Its a rubber stamp for the feds to do whatever. Just because you don't hear about it means that it doesn't happen. We can't give them more power than they already have.

They need to enforce existing laws. We don't need new laws.

banning TikTok would be a huge mistake and against American ideals. If there are legitimate national security issues at play here, address them with a wider bill that requires social media companies to take certain actions to protect national security. But banning a single company is an affront to free speech. No matter how much we hate TikTok, it's hard to believe that banning it can be justified even if it's propaganda. It's not the US gov't role to determine what is acceptable content for the American people now how a company can use data that users have voluntarily provide it.

You can privacy laws. You can pass content laws. But you can't ban a media platform.
