"Trump told his national security adviser in August that he wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens" "He also sent a draft to the White House for a standard review process for some current and former administration officials who write books." So the WH, thus the GOP senators, know what Bolton can testify to. No wonder they risk much political harms in their refusal of any new witnesses and information. A GOP cover-up is the right word now. I didn't want to use that, but it's hard not to do so now. McConnel: We got to wrap this up now. Trump: I hardly know Bolton and he's lying since I fired him.
If the Republicans will cover up for Trump at this level, is there anyone on earth that doesn’t believe they’ll cover for him when he loses the election and gives some BS reason for voiding the results and refusing to leave? At this point it’s not hyperbolic to say it’s objectively true that Republicans are destroying Democracy in this country.
I think that's hyperbolic. If Trump were to try and do that in this country, he'd literally be taken out within a few days.
Maher can make hyperbolic assertions but he makes a compelling case for your concern with receipts. I think the larger more realistic fear if Trump is voted out is that he will step out of the White House but use social media and right wing news outlets to stir up animosity and sporadic violence by labeling the election as a deep state hoax.
Same manner that Trump was speaking of when he was talking about the Ukraine Ambassador. I'm just saying, as a country, we wouldn't tolerate a dictator. It would never happen.
I think we have slowly expanded the powers and cultural influence of the presidency more and more over the past century. Today almost half the country believes the word of the president over our own intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies. People excuse Trump for not using the proper legal channels such as FISA courts to obtain legal search warrents if he truly wanted to find justice in Ukraine regarding the Biden's by stating that he has legitimate reasons not to trust our own courts compared to Fox news tv pundits such as Rudy. When majority of a society believes the word of one man over all other outlets and institutions of said society, we reach fascism. We ain't there yet. We currently are at around 35-40%.
The “jury” wouldn’t against Trump even if Trump came out and admitted everything he did. The real jury is the voters. Also a Trump boot licker shouldn’t be discussing the honesty or veracity of anyone else. Trump lies about everything, be it important or be it trivial. He is a habitual liar.
I dunno. The only thing that makes the new elected president the new president is the Chief Justice swearing them in. Then bam, the military, secret service, etc. then are supposed to fall in line. So in theory it shouldn’t be that hard to avoid the change in power to the Dem president IF the Senate were to pass a resolution that the judiciary gave credence to. The president ordering the election void or the results on hold cannot work without the assistance of Mitch McConnell and John Roberts. After what you’ve seen during this impeachment coverup does anyone think it’s out of the realm of possibility? Maher is right though with his central question he never gets an answer to. Which is “what’s the plan?” We know Trump will likely issue and executive order, and we know McConnell and the Republicans in the Senate are scared to death enough of Trump to think “well... maybe there was some interference and it makes sense to launch an investigation first... with Bill Barr’s DOJ heading up that probe....and the SCOTUS then have the situation of making a decision on whether to defy the Senate, Executive Branch, and the DOJ. I could absolutely see Justice Roberts making what at the time seems like a level headed decision to avoid chaos by just trying to calm the situation down and issuing a motion to delay the inauguration. Then we are at the mercy of Bill Barr producing enough of a case for whatever decision the SCOTUS would make to rule on Trumps executive order. This isn’t all that far fetched imo.
Collins is toast. McSally and Gardner are likely toast as well. They are expected to take the calculated risk of supporting the President and hope for RNC and fund raising to off set any losses. Thom Tillis in North Carolina needs to be careful as well. On the Democrat side Doug Jones needs to be careful. If Trump comes out of this with some damage... 3-4 Republican seats can flip to Democrats.
It was never a contest. There was no chance Republican senators would vote for removal. what this is about... is how it impacts voting in states like Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona and Pennsylvania. Trump has likely lost Michigan but he can win if he keeps enough of the other states of adds Carolina. Florida is an absolute toss up. Pennsylvania is leaning slightly Democratic. Trump is fighting and has a good chance in Wisconsin and Arizona. Even a 1 point swing could determine the race. If Florida or Pennsylvania go Democratic or Trump adds Arizona/New Mexico or Carolina.
Bolton won't compel himself to testify but will sing up an entire book to sell. America in a nutshell.
I'm from your area, by the way. Grew up in Magnolia. New York was merely but a pit stop Ina my journey of life.
