Agree. And, in any case, I don't think the Republicans can just go back to the Kasich-style Republican candidates of yesteryear. Trump has changed the party. They're going more populist and more nationalist.

I don't think Mark "Appalachian Trail" is the guy to take on Trump even as just a protest candidate.
I'm strongly leaning towards voting for Bill Weld in my state's primary as a protest.

This just shows that the Libertarian party is pretty much unmoored from its original principles. Gary Johnson shouldn't have run as a Libertarian and Lincoln Chafee who was the last of the liberal Republicans before leaving the GOP definitely isn't a Libertarian.

They won't get a chance. GOP will cut off state primaries to protect Trump.

'The Fellowship' on Netflix really exposes Sanford as an even bigger sleazeball than we've been led to believe.

The news (or at least the liberal lamestream media) likes to remind me that previous Republican incumbents who had a primary challenger went on to lose in the general, and these guys are just looking to damage Trump to forestall a general election victory. But, I think this logic has the cause-and-effect backwards. I don't think primary challengers really weaken incumbents. It's just that weak incumbents attract strong challengers and also lose general elections. You'll always find an unemployed crank who wants to run against a president, but if we ever get someone who still has a viable political career willing to challenge him, that might be a lead indicator.

Well... the photographer makes two people showing up, right? And can we count Sanford himself as a third?

It's hard to garner support when the party won't even allow primaries.
