You, no. We don't agree about basically anything, but you always post with humility and sincerity, which I can respect. Sorry I can't reciprocate by having a good attitude in defeat.
I was wrong. I thought his candidacy was the greatest gift the left could hope for: an exposure and amplification of the racism and misogyny of the right. Thinking, of course, that a large majority would be repelled. They weren't.
Trump got fewer votes than Mitt Romney and John McCain. He did repel a significant amount of traditional Republican voters. Problem is, Hillary Clinton repelled WAY more traditional Democratic voters.
Good post. I don't think that many people in this country are deplorables but this was more a referendum on globalization/establishment/status quo. I still don't see Trump being a champion of anything that the public actual wants, he was merely a great salesman.
You were wrong thinking there would be enough people willing to ignore Hillary's criminal behavior and elect her anyway. Actually, I was wrong about that too.
I didn't think he had any chance of winning after getting the nomination. I also didn't think he had the necessary qualities to be an effective president. I hope I was wrong on both counts. My dream is that Trump did what he had to do to get elected, and he'll govern like a rational person with the country's interests rather than self-glorification chiefly in mind.
Like they all came together for Obama? I didn't think he would win . . i don't think he will come for me just yet. his affect directly on my won't be felt for the first year maybe more . . . .though my 401K took a hit yesterday Rocket River
After the FBI Email bomb .. . . all bets were off It was a perfectly timed nothing . . but it mobilized people Hillary could not get 50% of the White woman vote. . . and it cost her . . . ball game Rocket River
your 401k took a hit? Seems odd. I don't know what you are invested in, but the stock market went way up the past two days. Odd.
I thought Trump had a chance from the beginning because it's hard for a party to win a 3rd term and you knew AA weren't going to come out as strong as they did for Obama. I was not happy she did not make Sanders her VP - that would have tipped the balance and delivered her victory. I know enough that elections are always tricky affairs when you get outlier candidates like Trump and all sorts of weird things happening. I was critical also of Hillary's handling of Trump's attack with NAFTA. She changed subjects without considering the rust belt audience.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ATTENTION THIS IS A BUMP OF A THREAD FOLLOWING ELECTION NIGHT 2016 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This showed up in related threads and I thought others might be interested in seeing what the comments were following Trump’s election. Nobody really excited about, everyone hoping they’d be surprised and Trump would end up doing well for our country. It’s safe to say that didn’t work out too well.
I know, these damn trump voters are fools. Mostly racist with terrible fashion sense. Trump will spend decades in prison after his term. He will lead us to war and screw up the economy eventually.
I think that the demonizing of the republican party and potentially more centrist independents and democrats is going to continue to hinder the goals many on here want to accomplish. It should come as little surprise that labeling a significant percentage of the population as "racist" is not helpful to the cause. I don't see how transforming the party of tolerance into the party of judgment and outrage is really helping. I hope that this is a non-representative bubble on a message board, but the more I read the more I see people driving others further right. The idea that "white people" should try and help out in Africa -- really? Or that one group gets to decide MAGA is racist and then take the position that "hey, they took the risk". That MAGA hate wearer may hold political views that are different from yours. He or she may believe. That the influx of illegal aliens should be curbed or that this push for quai-socialist policies is not a good thing. That doesn't mean they are racist. And others should get to decide that label. And certainly shouldn't be defending those who engage in violence as a result. (FYI, agree or not, there is a significant portion of our population who deeply belive abortion is murder -- not as a political thing -- but as a deeply held belief sometimes tied in with their religious faith. For them, planned parenthood is akin to baby killers
And only the crazies would support or even defend in any fashion an attack on people wearing a planned parenthood t-shirt. (I know attacks on clinics happen -- and those people rightfully go to jail). I think the left is alienating a lot of people who would otherwise gladly support their core, more centrist ideals but who are appalled by the militant and overtly judgmental tone some have taken.
I'm sorry but you obviously have had the luxury of never being embedded in a right wing bubble for many years.
I think today Republican is alienating a lot of people who would otherwise gladly support their core, more centrist ideals but who are appalled by the support for a outright racist, criminal and fully unethical POTUS. Which statements is more true? How about the sensible people reject both (extremes), instead of using either to form their "alienating" of the other sensible people that are to the left or right of them?
