Lets assume what is coming out as the most likely scenario, Yao comes back but its later in the season. Morey and Les decide its still win now mode and believes the team can contend with a healthy Yao. If they were to resign Ron Ron and basically keep the team the same minus Wafer and adding a couple of the rookies.... what sort of record would that team be capable of getting in the West? I think the most important player within the realms of possibility that would be handy would be Gortat, you solver two problems here in backup for Yao when he is playing and a capable replacement while he is out. Any wonder deals done with Macs contract would be great. So what do you guys think if this were to go down, could the Rockets still be able to put themselves in a decent position while Yao was out? The downfall of Phoenix and possibly the Hornets I think they could still be able to sit themselves in the 6-8 spot.
Best case scenario going along the lines you mentioned would be to trade Landry/McGrady for Amare/Barbosa. We stay afloat, Barbosa is better than Wafer, and Hayes can fill in for Landry until Yao comes back and moves Amare to the 4. It all hinges on what Phoenix can field for Amare and if maybe they covet some of the 2nd rounders we just added. We wouldn't just stay afloat, we would still be a top 3-4 team in the West WITHOUT Yao. And still have the full MLE to throw at an asset. You never know, maybe Kidd would come for the MLE. Things happen.
You get the trade first, no matter what he is with you a year and if he deserves it then perhaps he gets it if not you have some money at the end of it.
http://sports.sina.com.cn/cba/2009-06-30/12584458592.shtml Reports from China stated that the CBA has no doubt that Yao will play in the World Championships in 2010. CBA: “但并没有提到可能影响下个赛季NBA比赛,更谈不上缺席世锦赛,相信他的伤情还没有到达这样的程度。” Translation: "The report did not mention whether the new injury will impact his new NBA season, hence we shouldn't talk about him missing the FIBA World Championships, I believe his injury has not reached such extreme circumstances." Looks like CBA will force Yao to play no matter what. I have to say I'm disappointed with the lack of human touch from the CBA
Best case is: Trade for Little Ricky and hope he's the real deal. Say goodbye to Ron. Say goodbye to Wafer. Gortat agrees to a mid level. Put T Mac and Yao on ice and play the youngsters. Re-evaluate everything at the trade deadline.
Best case? That this is an alternate reality run by our machine overlords and that with a pair of black sunglasses and a black coat one of us can come to some kind of agreement with them to make everything juuuuuust fine.
Best case will come in 3 steps: 1) Yao comes back midseason (obviously). 2) Trade Tracy for someone who will come in and contribute as a scorer. Someone like Redd, Rip, etc. This is a must. Without someone who can score 20 ppg consistently, we will lose alot of games. 3) Find a legit backup/starting center. This does NOT mean Gortat. We need someone who can easily start for a decent team, but can play backup when Yao gets back. Someone like Camby. Gortat will not cut it as a starter for 1/2 the season, or more. Plus, with Camby, he can play along side Yao in the 4 spot if needed.
Best case senario. Ron sign with the rox. Tmac and Yao miraculously heal. AB grown another inch and put on 10 extra pounds. Deke and SF3 make a comeback. Barry turn back the clock. Landry start shooting 3s and making them. The rookies turns out better than expected. Dorsey as well. And yeah, injury free season and rox win the big one.
Best case IMO is probably either getting Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh somehow. Richard Justice wrote an article about how much it would be a benefit for us to get Chris Bosh to replace Yao for the future. Amare Stoudemire deal may go somewhere else, though I'll take Amare as well. As long as we get one of the two, we should be good.
Especially if this career ending b.s. was intentionally floated the day before free agency started to have a shot at signing Gortat.
What does that have to do with Gortat? Also, what is everyones obsession with him? He's not great, he's not even proven to be good yet.
Best Case Scenario we Trade Tmac's expiring contact + Brooks or Landry for Bosh + Calderon We would become instant contenders.
Yea it would be awesome, i mean if we cant get Rubio lets then just go after another Spain Point Guard that has proven himself in the NBA Calderon
