Watching Yankees vs Mets from yesterday. Wanted to see and feel how things are. Some guys wore masks, some didnt. Cardboard fans in the stands. Home runs met with silence. Empty stadium. Fake crowd noise. This season is going to be different for sure.
PANIC!!!!!!! Imagine you are a Dodgers fan and the Dodgers go 1-3 to start season. A two game series against the Astros could all, but end their chances to make the playoffs. May not be the Dodgers, but is going to happen to someone.
Not sure a 1-5 start dooms the season, but no one can afford those long losing streaks where you lose 7 in a row or 12 of 15. There were two things, so far, in the commentary I thought interesting. They were talking about the schedules, and it was pointed out how unbalanced (unfair) it is. That the Yankees have to play 23 of their first 26 vs Tampa Bay, Boston, Atlanta, Philly and Washington. But hey also said that they would rather that than have the traveling schedule some of the west teams have.
That was another topic. Who controls the crowd noise? Will it be used as a tool for advantage like turning up the volume when its to your advantage and turning it down for the same reason? As to your point, will it make live televised games require a rating?
Are they going forward with crowd noises from fans? I want someone to change their walkup music to be just crickets so bad.
Maybe. Though teams will have to hope for few cancelled games, and for division opponents to play each other evenly in a short season.
Im watching the arlington game against the Rockies in their new shed and theyre doing the fake crowd noise- I gotta say its really annoying and just sounds like your listening to it through an open ended tin cup.
The fake crowd noise is ridiculous. I REALLY hope its not the norm for the rest of the season. It seems like I caught players in the Astros series looking up when the crowd noise got pumped up with this WTF look on their face.
It just occurred to me that this is the grand opening for their new stadium, and the fans cant see it. Poor southern Oklahoma bad luck
I was streaming that one and didnt really hear it. The arlington game is on tv and I hear all of it, in its annoyingness.
(Posted this in the ST thread, but didn't realize this is where we come to make fun of Arlington...) Watching the Rangers in their new stadium on FSSW (why does Houston still have to get this?)... I know the stadium is supposed to look better on the inside than it does on the outside, but even with no fans, they’ve done an imepeccable job of re-creating the mausoleum effect of Olympic Stadium or even Tropicana Field. Artificial turf... dark lighting... dark interiors... dark seats.
Why did Arlington do this??? The Ballpark at Arlington is *beautiful*. Why did they even need a new stadium? And with that new stadium, why in the hell did they go backwards??
Too many seats in the sun. Not been to a game in Arlington, but suspect it is like trying to sit down the 1st base line at Dell Dismond while the sun is up.
I heard it a couple of times.. once it was loud enough that my wife looked up and said "I thought there weren't any fans there". Reminded me of canned noise in a sitcom.
