Heard this on the Buck on Sports morning radio show in Austin, TX. 1300 the Zone broadcasts Texans games and their people were meeting yesterday with Texans officials who dropped that little nugget. John Madani said he wasn't sure if he was supposed to pass that news along and had no further details on who the opponent would be.
still can't believe UT and A&M won't be playing. i'm not even a fan of either school but enjoyed their rivalry.
In before "it's because TU is butthurt that we went to the SEC and A&M had nothing to do with it" delirious Aggie post.
The Thanksgiving Day college games are quickly going to be pushed down the pecking order in favor of NFL games. If UT thinks they are going to hold a monopoly on Thanksgiving games, other schools are more than willing to give that up because NFL draws more viewers and we all know it's about eyeballs. Regarding eyeballs, TCU with their 6,000 students and minimal fanbase will not draw much national attention at all. A&M has been mediocre for the past decade, but they do have more of a national following than TCU. This will not be a long-term thing, which is why UT is whoring themselves out to get Notre Dame on that date. I do think the A&M/UT game will come back; there is too much money to be made for both teams, but the current AD egos (Dodds/Byrne) will have had to be replaced; too much bad blood.
Absolutely agree with this. No way can Texas-TCU (or UT-A&M for that matter) compete with the NFL. Outside of Texas, the game holds zero national appeal. Last year the UT-A&M game went up against the Harbaugh bowl which was on the NFL network, and ratings were pretty bad. Difficult choice there: Case McCoy or the Harbaughs???
Are we the first game? If so, that's perfect. I'm usually passed out drunk by halftime of the 2nd game...
Every rivalry of 100 years begins with the first game. TCU has a better record over the last 4 years than UT. 2008 11-2 #7 2009 12-1 #6 2010 13-0 #2 2011 11-2 #13
