Holding people accountable. I like. Randy had his chances. Get his confidence back and try out next time. That being said, we need all the points we can get.
What did he say? As for Randy being gone...I'm surprised how quickly it happened (3 games in....guess I 'm still used to the Kubiak era). Bring on the Novak era....
I assume you are talking about me. I said he had a better year than Tucker last year, and he did. I also said Tucker was the better kicker and that I didn't have a problem cutting Bullock if they could find someone better. I personally don't think Nick Novak is better. I don't like the move, but it's not that big of a deal either way. Bullock wasn't having a good 2015, and **** happens. Move on.
I think it was on the lines of "This is what the NFL wanted" in regards to the new rule change for PATs being a further distance.
Chargers fan here. He is very accurate at kicking FG's with a range of up to ~53 yards. It's unfair to look at his career percentages because he was pretty bad early in his career and then got a lot better past few seasons with the Chargers. As mentioned, his biggest weakness is he can't produce any touchbacks which hurts the kickoffs / kickoff coverage. I think the stat was something ridiculous where Chargers had 12% of kicks resulting in touchbacks for lowest in the league, and second lowest was a huge jump to 28% or so.
Good job pointing out that I didn't think the Texans would make a move for the sake of making a move. Glad you are here to contribute that.
Can Lechler handle kickoffs to alleviate that issue or does he not have enough strength/accuracy off of the tee?
The reason was in what you quoted. It's about starting field position. Fortunately, the Texans special teams is great and will make up for Novak's short comings there. -_-
That could be a silver lining, if Lechler can manage kickoffs with sufficient leg strength then we might not be hurting kickoffs that much. I like Novak's accuracy on fairly short kicks, but I just don't trust the special teams coverage enough to have him be the kickoff guy.
Exactly what Kim said. But it still came as a somewhat big surprise to the fan base that Novak was cut. Chargers front office was tired of giving up big returns (especially since our coverage units can't cover) and took a risk there.
Yeah...that doesn't always work out too well. Especially since you can't do it to every player and you might pick the wrong scapegoat. There are more than 10 kickers kicking worse than Bullock who have jobs now. Including the 3-0 Panthers kicker who has missed 4 kicks including an extra point.
