Well he has 5 to Thomas' 4. But Tate has like 69 targets to Thomas' 56. Also different sources seem to have different drop #s. https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/demaryius-thomas/ https://www.playerprofiler.com/nfl/golden-tate/ Pretty solid advanced stats there. Tate generally has more sure hands. But Thomas has a much much higher contested catch rate. I guess he just has brain farts on open catches ever so slightly more often than you'd want.
I might add. DT may be losing a step but there's still that respect for him on the outside because of his size and toughness. DT's passing situation in Denver was really bad but what I'm excited about is him opposite of Hop. He's NEVER played with another great WR and can run block very well. I just wish Fuller was healthy because this offense would've been nuclear. This will probably be a rental unless something great happens.
Well... yes. Obviously it matters a ton on individual possessions. But across a whole season or many games, the differences don't end up being a ton. They both have 7 drops, though Tate on more targets. Tate has a 63.8% catch rate and 81.5% true catch rate (only using catchable passes), and a 33.3% contested catch rate (though only 3 targets). Thomas has a 64.3% catch rate and a 72% true catch rate, and a 55.6% contested catch rate (with 9 targets). Neither are perfect, obviously. To the extent Thomas isn't as sure-handed, he's got 4 inches of height on Tate so is better to go to in tight situations, which is valuable. Plus you only had to give up a 4th rounder. Personally, Tate, Thomas or Jackson... whichever one cost the least would have been the one I went with.
Look up the story on Thomas Grandmother. Also he’s from Georgia. So is Watson. Trust me... stuff like that gets guys close to each other.
He's nowhere close to Hopkins and Watson's ability to scramble out of pocket should provide fruitful for DT.
perhaps but 1400 yard seasons isn't exactly some nobody next to Thomas. this won't be some kind of shock
Thomas is on the downside of his career but It's been than nothing. Would of preferred giving up a 5th but that didn't seem likely with multiple suitors so I understand trading a 4th. Couldn't just have Hopkins out there with Fuller gone.
