The non-exclusive tag is interesting. It gives the Texans a lot of leverage moving forward. I’m interested to see if a team is in fact willing to give up 2 first rounders to get him and I’d really have to think about it if I’m the front office
Ok, I thought so. The only compensatory picks I can recall us having were those that we wasted on that Montgomery DL out of LSU, which was probably from either Brandon Brooks or Connor Barwin... Which was a 3rd round selection. I haven't seen this happen with any 1st round picks yet.
Exclusive tags are rarely used. But come to think of it, can't recall any team actually making a deal for a tagged player. I remember the Saints coming close to trading for Butler but that's about it. Giving these guys the money they want on top of two 1st round picks is a lot.
I think Sean Gilbert in the late 90s was the only time it happened. I might be mistaken. Usually teams work out lesser compensation.
Yeah it ain't happening. But I think he has to sign the tag before it can even be used in a trade. The most likely scenarios are either signing a long term deal or Clowney sitting out training camp and maybe parts of the regular season.
Bwhahaha why bring up the Patriots as an example knowing darn well. They will not come nowhere close to what Clowney wants to get paid. This man want Mack and Miller type money.
NFL experts: What are the chances that the Colts, armed with a ton of capspace and could probably use a player like Clowney, throw him an offer that the Texans can't/won't match?
Not likely since it means giving up two first round picks. It's possible (Bears gave up 2 1st rounders, a 3rd and a 6th for Mack) but unlikely.
Both 1sts wouldn't have to convey this season right? Like a team would owe their 2019 1st and their 2020 1st. Otherwise, the list of teams that have 2 1sts in 2019 is pretty small.
It will be 1st rd picks in consecutive years. If they Colts sign him, the Texans are going to match. I don't see them wanting to face Clowney twice a year.
Not sure why the Colts would sign him. Do they even know he exists? I doubt Andrew Luck does at least.
They know him as the man gullible enough to jump offsides when they weren't even going to run a play, so they probably don't think too highly of him.
Haha, our QBs point "Mike" to help set protection. Luck points JD to remind his guys to hold their water as they're going to try and draw him offsides.
