Laremy Tunsil turns 26 in August. He makes $10.25 million this year. When his three-year extension ends after the 2023 season, he’ll be 29. If he continues to play well, he’ll get another extension with one year left, making him 28. Good deal for him and Texans. — John McClain (@McClain_on_NFL) April 24, 2020 Ian Rapoport @RapSheet Full terms: 3 years, $66M with $50M guaranteed and $40M due at signing. A huge haul for the star LT
Only 3 years seems low. Seems much more beneficial LT to put himself is good position for another big contact. Guess that’s what happens when the team has zero leverage
if it makes people feel better he will be getting 76 mill over the next 4 years. I’m just happy it’s done...
Smart players (outside of QBs), go with short term deals because they can get another contract. Players signing 5 years (Hopkins, Duane Brown) take the upfront money then try to comeback and re-do contracts with 2-3 years left......and then the conflicts with the team begins. If they were smart, they could have sign the short extension and would have been in better position.
No, it is what a SMART player does. Those 5 years extensions for non-QBs have a bunch of money upfront, then no guaranteed money later. So, the player then realizes he can get cut OR he is drastically under paid.....then the conflict with the team begins because the player was short-sighted.
What does "guaranteed" money mean, in regards to NFL contracts? Like, no matter what happens (mediocre play, injuries, etc), he's "guaranteed" to get 50M?
They’re saying 2023 would be last year of contract, wouldn’t it be a 2024 with it being an extension? Or are they tearing this year up?
