It's about running the business side, not running an actual team.

Somehow they keep selling season tickets so they're doing something right on the business side.

Lesson 1: Buy a franchise in a major market in Texas that has been without football for way too long
    Lesson 2: Don't leave

The business side of running an NFL team is simply own an NFL team and wait for the money to print itself.

Why is this a weird deal? McConaughey teaching a film class at UT, now *that* made me laugh this week.

It'a a Management class that's focused on the business side of sports, and you get to take it off campus at the Texans HQ. Sounds pretty badass to me.

Did none of you go to college?

We don’t need classes like this... student loan debt is incredible and college costs have sky rocketed.

There are 32 NFL teams in the world... this **** isn’t needed.

This is probably true. Way too many "sports management" programs out there now for a field with a very finite number of jobs.

I'd give Rice the benefit of the doubt and maybe they are one of the few schools that should offer a program like this, but your average state university should not be offering a program like this and is probably doing so to help boost tuition numbers.

If this class was offered at a state university, my guess is it would be full of athletes looking for an easy A. Complete waste of time and money for anyone serious about getting into sports management.

I can see it as an upper-division business course, in line with courses dealing with the unique concerns and economics of entertainment enterprises. It could be done well, with side branches into managing concessions, telecommunications, talent negotiation, and public financing.

Not why I chimed in though. I thought the following 'Ten Class Rules for Coach O'Brien's class at Rice', would amuse you all: https://sportstalk790.iheart.com/fe...nfl-team-like-the-texans-by-professor-george/
