Make it make sense, because what I read on CF and on Twitter does not seem to line up with the data.
    1. We are playing two kindergartners at PF and C.
    2. We have lost Tari, DB, Fred, and Jabari at various times.
    3. We have two rookies playing legitimate rotation minutes.
    4. Four other under-22 guys playing heavy minutes.
Add a healthy Tari Eason and Steven Adams to this thing and see what happens. o_O

    Off-season goals: FIND. THE. OFFENSE...

Great thread OP. We have to keep hammering these facts home. The defense is very good and almost certain to improve. I would be shocked if we were not a top 5 defense next season.

Our offense is at a dead end. We're really far from being good there. We're 24th or something. Barely better than Silas and Silas wasn't even trying nor did he have as good a roster. Some of it is on the players and some of it is on Udoka. IMO we NEED a better offensive lead assistant. We NEED at least 1 perimeter player to succeed at attacking the rim/paint - so that the defense collapses and opens up corner 3's for us. We NEED to go back to sharing the ball, we have fallen to the bottom of the NBA in terms of assists.

Offense and defense are the only 2 components in the NBA. EVERYTHING else you think about (rebounding, rim protection, size, transition, X's and O's, etc) shows up in these 2 metrics. The game is half offense and half defense. That's the entire formula of the NBA. They are just about equally important. To win a title, you have to be top 10 in both - no matter how much the NBA or its rules change, across all eras. Over 90% of teams that have won championships are top 10 ranked in offense and defense.

The path is clear: spend as little of our assets as possible to improve the offense without losing any defense. The climb up the rankings will be easy if we do that.

The biggest one, imo, is 3rd in Opp 3fg%

I mean, these rankings in 3FG%.
The top 4 are the top for seeds, right now.
NOLA is 5th seed in West.
Den is missing (14th) but was ranked 4th in 3pt% last year as champs

I’m not sure if you’ll find a singular stat that matches the contender standings as much as this one

    RkTeam3PA3P%
    1Oklahoma City Thunder[/td33.9.395
    2Los Angeles Clippers33.2.389
    3Minnesota Timberwolves32.2.389
    4Boston Celtics42.4.386
    5New Orleans Pelicans32.3.379
    6Indiana Pacers35.7.377
    7Milwaukee Bucks38.0.376
    8Golden State Warriors40.0.376
    9Phoenix Suns31.8.376
    10Dallas Mavericks40.0.374
    .League Average35.0.367

btw: are these per game or per 100 @RudyTBag

    • Opp Points Off TOV: 6th
    • Opp 2nd Chance Points: 11th
    • Opp Pts Off Fast Break: 1st
    • Opp Points in the Paint: 9th

Even better when you dig into points allowed in the paint by teams and they're tied for 9th with Denver and better than OKC, as in 23 other teams allow more points in the paint. Those 23 other teams defense are anchored by 'real centers' for example Pacers, Milly-wau-kay, Spurs among other 'rim protectors'.

Consider also that ORL is 4th in DRtg with Banchero and Franz as their best players.

Y’all gotta stop letting Ime off the hook in regards to offense. Nobody is playing above average on offense for us outside of Tari and Sengun.

Yeah, I thought we were letting opponents do layup drills because we didn't have a rim protector. :D

This why I'm always amazed by how many people want to shift Sengun to the 4 to play with a lumbering "rim protector." Given our age, the defense has been excellent. Our issue remains OFFENSE.

Not sure if this was meant to me, all I’m saying is the offense is the problem.

    Here's the data you need:

    ROAD RECORD: 6-24 (-18)

They are mental midgets when playing in someone else's house. There is just a lack of focus or desire or something because the only difference is the away fans.

    HOME RECORD: 20-10 (+10)

If they had the same record home and away they would be +20 and one of the top teams in the NBA.

Per game, I believe. Per100 would offer some nice perspective. Our pace is about league average so I'm guess that we'd see very similar numbers.

I think we have quite a few posters who are biting their tongues because the data doesn't match their opinion. :D

They don’t really show up to threads like these because then they’ll have nothing to talk about.

Showing Udoka’s offense sucks and our defense is great gets rid of a lot of whining. There are some people for whom it’s their personality to be the “defense first” guy and they keep harping on that no matter how we do. Even if we were top 3 they’d come up with some fake narrative like “yeah we’re good but we’re not consistent enough”.

The defense is arguably the only big bright spot of the season.
