Is anyone else going to SXSW this year? No badge, but I'm going to hit up all the free shows, I've kind of made it an annual thing to go for at least 3 days. Bands I'm amped to see: Surfer Blood, Dirty Beaches, Tennis, Atlas Sound, and of course The Strokes. Who should I add to the list?
This Will Destroy You Helmet Corrosion of Conformity Skrillex Portugal The Man Eagle Claw Widespread Panic (hopefully) Queens of the Stone Age (double hopefully) Foo Fighters (triple hopefully) A-Trak Beats Antique Awolnation
Going Wed for free stuff during the day. Might try to make The Strokes on Thursday after my annual St. Pattys day golf tourney. Taking the kids to the family shows at Auditorium Shores on Saturday.
My radio station, KVRX, is throwing some great free shows. Our showcase is Thursday night at Cheer Up Charleis on E. 6th (in the block with all of the food trailers, blocks from downtown) with Baths, Dominique Young Unique and Caddywhompus headlining. Come find me there and we can drink and people watch.
I am not going, but my 61 year old mother and my 73 year old Stepfather are. The only reason though is because I have a nephew playing in a band based out of New York that will be playing and this is their only chance to see him play.
I am going to Austin this weekend for SXSW. The issue however, is that I don't know where to RSVP?! And some places are filled so can I get in when I'm actually there?? Anyone wanna help a first time SXSWer. I'm here for spring break from New York and feel this would be a great way to wind down and listen to some good music. A few shows I'd love to see but don't know how to get access to: - Lupe Fiasco and the Atlantic Crew - Kanye - The Strokes - Wiz If anyone has any recs, post em here! Thanks
the strokes is free at auditorium shores, try to get there early. the others.. good luck, wait in line for the public tickets
Anyone know if the events at Kiss & Fly (Big Sean, J Cole, BOB) are ticketed events? I don't get this wristband and badge policy..
If you don't have a wristband or badge, then you just go on faith! I've been going since 2004 to hit up a showcase or two without a wristband or badge and I've never been turned away... though, there were a couple times I got in later than I would've preferred. First of all, unless this RSVP thing is something new that they've implemented this year, I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist--I've definitely never heard of it. Now some shows will be wristband/badge only, but those aren't that common--only some of the big "buzz" bands might be playing a show like that. Also, a lot of the sponsored afterparties usually are closed to the commoner. In any case, these closed events cover maybe 5-10% of the shows anyway. As for the average showcase, there are two lines to get in: with badge/wristband and without. The former gets priority, and it can be frustrating waiting for that line to empty, but the "without" line usually gets in... after long periods of waiting. You need to get in line AT LEAST one hour before the band you want to see starts playing. If it's an evening-night showcase, you should try to get in at the beginning to be safe. Cover charges usually aren't posted anywhere, so be prepared to pay anywhere from $0-30 once you reach the door. I think that's about it. Any other questions? I'll be happy to make up more answers...
If my friend can get me a wrist band for 120 do you think it's worth it for just half of Thursday and Friday?
Kanye/Common on Sunday (or Monday rather), midnight at power station. How early do you think one should camp for that?
