Another interesting point for everyone. Farieds weight is now listed at 215 lbs meaning he is literally the same height and weight as luc Mbah a Moute and Trevor Ariza. He should be playing the 4, not the 5. He has enough quickness to guard perimeter players, he did a good job on Klay and Durant on a few possessions tonight. He had 5 offensive boards tonight, without these extra possessions with him out there at Power Forward, we lose the game.
It's a very bad matchup no doubt. I wonder if House can muscle up and slow him down. DM/TF should complete a deal with him quickly. He is not a starter by any means, but he is the best option available.
PER? Really. Eric Gordon PER is 11. That stat doesn’t tell the whole story. He’s a solid rotation piece. As a 4th guard you can do a lot worse. I like shumpart but he’s not about to start shooting the 3 ball any better than rivers and his PER is 9.75 for the season. So he’s below replacement level also.
Shumpert isn't great but is still a marginal upgrade over Rivers because of his defense and experience. In case you haven't been paying attention, Gordon has been mostly terrible for the season so yeah, PER is a pretty reliable stat especially from an offensive perspective.
His 40%+ 3p rate is not sustainable. Including tonight’s game, he is a career 8/36 from downtown. In fact, he made a quarter of his career makes in tonight’s game alone. Like Ego he will eventually go back to his mean.
We need both...or we need one of House/Shump but we definitely need Rivers because he's a better point than Gordon and can spell Harden and CP3. He's going to get his hot and cold spells too and he's fiery as well. All these guys we picked up...Manimal, Rivers, Shump, are dogs who fight for every possession. I don't know if we are going all the way but I can tell you no team is looking at the Rockets and wanting to play them in the first round or second. We are going to be an extremely hard out.
If Durant and boogie leaves in July, GS total payroll is 108 million with Thompson at 30 million. They can sign Kenny faried at 9 million.
That 3ball is deadly lmao. If he can seriously start hitting 3's consistently then we've hit a jackpot. You can argue he's not a good defender, and that can be valid, but if he can seriously stretch the floor well enough to play full-time PF minutes then his impact for the team would be HUGE for ONE single reason... Rebounding. Capela + Faried on the boards is a great luxury, we can comfortably switch again having one big in the paint to rebound at all times, add on that both are lob threats, if Faried is hitting 3's, it's a really nice situational combo.
I also like and vote for starting Faried at the 4, moving Tucker to the 3, and bringing Gordon off the bench. We may have stumbled onto something. We were just too small the way it was. I cannot remember the last time Houston had three players with double digit rebounds. Looking forward to seeing how well it works when Harden returns to the starting lineup.
Before last night he had 6 career makes with 3 of them as a Rocket. At this point, over half of his career makes have come in his 14 games as a Rockets.
These are Faried's per 100 possession numbers. His numbers are incredibly consistent across his entire career. How I interpret that is that he plays hard all the time and never takes games off. He doesn't have another level. However if he can start hitting 3's at a decent clip (34 percent or higher), we have found our long term solution at the 4. Let's hope we can keep him with the MLE next season. i have really noticed this. i think there's a misconception that he's a good defender, when in reality he's not. He rebounds, he might block a shot a game, he's got a high motor; always going for the ball. But as a defender it really feels like he'way behind in his development. I'm wondering if that's just the way he's been coached or what, but he's way to athletic to be a sub-par defender. Wonder if some more time with Jeff BizD will help that.
I don't think it's a misconception, it's very well known. He just has terrible defensive instincts, and isn't terribly smart either. Sometimes high engine guys like him react too much, and for NBA guards that's easy to exploit.
