I agree that it was a mistake, but I can understand the reasoning for it. I completely disagree with the exceptions, but I will keep using Spybot S+D, and recommending it, and I don't see any reason to be too overly concerned about this. The Spybot S+D folks do a fantastic job with the program, and they do a great service for all of us.

What reasoning justifies allowing the sasser worm virus author to have spyware on your machine?

I'll keep using spybot, but this is definitely a bit outrageous…

I looked at the advanced settings in my S & D and none of those are checked as excluded.

I found a very interesting site about anti-spyware programs.

    Anti-spyware reviews

I don't know how accurate are the ratings though.

youwould be surprised by the amount of ex-virus writers who end up working for security companies and/or writing code for other programs...its what they are good at.

that said...I understand why the developer decided to do this...but I dont agree with it.

it still is a good program and should not be the only weapon in your arsenal.

It's pretty much a "fake" review site that promotes lots of fake anti-spyware programs.

BTW, I just discovered this very interesting site about Anti-Spyware programs. The forums on the site are decent as well.

FlexBeta had a pretty good comparison a while back. I don't completely agree with the graph that shows "Spyware Sweeper" detecting almost TEN TIMES the amount of spyware -- I think it's just a difference of how the programs report things, rather than "Spyware Sweeper" being so great. The reviewers have added a page at the end to clarify this. I still recommend the trio in the sig, plus CWShredder and Hijack this when needed.
