I'm paying for 1.5 gbps for now but I'm only getting 0.17 speed. I'm trying to watch netflix with couple of friends and can't. Anyone know what must be the problem and how I can get the max amount I'm paying for which is 1.5.

First of all... DSL does not go to gbps. It goes to mbps at the most. If you want anything faster than 12 mbps you need cable.

Secondly mbps stands for MEGABITS per second. Not megabytes. 1.5 megabits/s roughly translates to 150kb/s (KILOBYTES).

    You're getting the right speed.

    FOR example. 6mb/s = 600kb/s, 3mb/s = 300kb/s

    I have Comcast 15mbps and I'm getting 1.5 megabytes/s.

UPDATE: And you need about 6mb/s to stream HD movies.
I think 3mb/s can stream anything 480p or less.

1.5 isn't good for anything other than checking email and reading webpages.

Like I said. 1.5mbps is way too low anyway. Just cancel your phone bill and switch to 6mbps or 12mbps DSL.

Have you asked "them" if you can get better speeds by upgrading the service?

    your area must suck!

I used to have 3mb connection for about 6+ years... and a few months ago, youtube 360p won't even load for me anymore... according to DSLreports, ATT is doing something fishy

so I got fed up and did what they called a dry-loop, no phone server, only DSL, and upgraded to 6mbps

all is fine now I guess, but I don't understand why I needed the upgrade when things were fine for years...

Internet service providers are running a freaking monopoly... most neighborhoods don't even have a choice of service providers, they're carving out territories...

That's how I feel about Comcast.
Customer support douchebags are the most worthless Pieces of **** that have ever walked this earth. They don't solve ANYTHING. Of course, it's not like I have any other option. FiOS is not available in my area.

I just switched out of AT&T because they were suspiciously throttling my bandwidth. Comcast doesn't throttle, but they have so much downtime... it sucks.

I know, right? I feel like celebrating with a bottle of hair gel and I might even post a thread whining about negative rep and get pwnd.

Devry FTW! Can't even figure out network speeds, lol.

When I met Nick Van Exel in the Walgreens parking lot, he told he had really fast internet at his home by the golf course.

The more copper wiring between your house and the exchange the lower your speed will be.

With DSL you need ADSL2+ to be able to watch streams.

Wow that's slow. I would cancel, eat the cost, and get a different type of internet. Is your anguish really worth it for seven months?

No offense to DSL users, but DSL just sucks. Even with Cable Internet's cons, it's much better to have Cable logically and financially.

For the amount you pay for DSL, you don't get the kind of value you're paying for.

If you have the option to get Cable, I'd get it. Doesn't matter what the ISP is, go with Cable or Fiber Optics.

Agreed...I recently ran into the same issue about two months ago...I had the basic plan and it was ok...got an offer to increase the speed and it was worse, so much slower...So I switched back to the old one figuring it would go back to normal, but it didn't, same sucky speed...
